The majority of the reading circles and
local institutes have adopted Raub's School

etudy. The outline here presented will be
made according to the arrangement of topics
by these works. As the term 19 too short
for the study of ail topics, it is thought best
to recommend such topics as are of special
Importance for the actual work of schools.
School Management aud Hygiene, pages

cluding programs, school signals, seating
and recesses. Parkers Talks, 1,2, 3 and 4.
These talks ara brief but include the nature
and object of teaching.
School work.chapter 3,including discipline
conditions for study, helps to study and In

reading is continued in talks 5, 6 and 7. The
application cf ceTrect principles are here
presented.
The third division or ovtiine includes the
recitations, questioning, attention, criti

to the recitation. Talks 8 and 9 concludes
reading and talk, 10 takes up spelling and
presents the different methods.

William Hroderirk, who together with
a jounj man named Stack, was released
from jail at last erm of court by Judge
Johnston for the reason that Justice Biaud,
ef Johnstown, who had committed them for
surety of tfe peace, had no jurisdiction in
' the premises, is again behind the bars for a
; r-irn ilar e ffer.se. He was committed several
Hays ago by Justice Bland, on oath of his
! father, William Broderick, Sr., who swore
that his son had threatened to knock his
(the father's) brains out. The old gentle
j man also testified that the son drove his
i mother barefooted from the house on a bit
! ter cold night, the ground being covered
i with snow. Many persons think it is but a
question of time when the Broderick abode
will be the scene of a brutal murder.
At some of the meetings, the attendance
has not been p.;- to the expectations of the

The expiration of copyright is at last
bringing into really popular circulation the
works of some of the most celebrated Amer
ican authors, whose writings the high cost
of monopoly has kept within the hands of a
few. Allien, the IJttrary lierolution pub
lisher, has recenty brought out a number of
the best books by Hawthorne, Precott,
Emerson, Poe, Cooper, and either"). He has
now just f ubhshed a very pretty volume of
Longfellow's poems so fai as copyright has
expired. It is the form which he is making
famous as the Ideal Edition beautiful
enough to bo worthy of the name the type
being large Long Primer, the printing and
binding (cloth) in excelle nt taste. People
who have been used to buying Longfellow
might suppose the price of the handsome
volume to be a dollar or more instead of
which Alden only ask 25 cen ts for it 1 Pos
tage. 5 cents extra, if by mail. Alden's
latest catalogue, fi4 small quarto pages,
which he sends free to anyone (his publica
tions are not sold by book-sellers, buy direct
only). Is a veritable literary wonder in its
attractions. Addrcs John U. A'den, Pub
lisher, New York or Chicogo.
