On Wednesday afternoon Clement Larl mer, John Thompson and George Dick. 1 three boys aged about fifteen years, all b i longing to Ehensburg, went fishing to the dam of Mr. John M. Ilughes and in the I evening went down to the dam of Mr. Evan J. Evans, about three miles from town. They took with them a small 22 calibre breech loading rifle. About half past six o'clock while walking along near the dam, Larimer in front. Thompson next and car- I rylng the gun witb the muzzle pointing in I front, and Dick a short distance behind. Young Dick went to throw his fishing rod away, when the rod struck the hammer of the gun. discharged it, and Iriraer fell, the ball striking him in the back of the head. Mis?- Evans from Mr. Evans' house heard the report of the g:in, saw the hoy fall, at.d hurried to his assistance, as also did several men who were working in a fluid close by. Mr. David F.yans quickly took the harness off one of his horses and galloped to Eiiens burg for medical aid. and Dr. jons imme diately started for the scene, and Dr. Davi son followed soon aftrr ; but the poor Iniy had brrathed bis lFt liefore the physicians reached him. lie livr-d atout haT a'i hour after being shot without speaking, being en tirely unconscious, and di. d in the arms of Mr. David Lewis. The hall entered the back rart of the h ad. on the left side about midway between the car and the middle of the neck, and lodged in the brain. His body was brought home to his grief stricken mother, who is a widow and wa hert-bro-ken when the news of the terrible accident was told to her. Young Larimer was a quiet, manly little fellow, small for his age, a favorite with everybody, and his tragic death is deeply regretted not only on his own account, but also on account of the boys who were with him. who will always remember with regret their unfortunate, though unintentional, connection with It. It is a solemn and sad warning to boys as well as men that they cannot be too careful in the handling of firearms. An inquest : was held by R. Jones Eq.. who empaneled ; a jury aod viewed the body on Wednesday j oveninp, and adjonrned until Thursday i morning, when, after hearing the evidence, ; they rendered a verdict of accidental shoot- '. in. Judge McPherson holds that the selection of persons to serve as jurors in the county courts Is a duty of the gravest importance: that great discre tion should be used in the performance of it ; that the commissioners should subject the names of those handed to them to care ful and judlcions sifting; that It is not only the right of the jury commissioners, but thelf hounden d uty as well, to go into the various townships to make caieful inquiry whether these men are in reality 'sober, intelligent and judicious persons."
