the others escaping Into the woods. The
prisoners were brought to IMtishurg and at
a preliminary hearing before TJ. S. Com

quite successfully In Clarion, Jefferson, and
Forest Counties. They have been engaged
In the manufacture of spurious silver dol

has ever been worked up hereabouts for
many years.

RODGERS. Died, at his residence In
Wheeler, Fayette county, on Saturday, Oc
tober 10th, 1885, Mr. GeorRe J. Rodders,
aged about 72 years.
The deceased was born in Ebensburg
where he resided the greater part of his life.
During his early manhood he was ingaged
in mercantile pursuits, and about 1842
in partnership with David Ritter, who was
married to one of his sisters, embarked in
the iron business, building what was known
I as the Ritter furnace on the Blacklick creek
! about nine miles from Ebensburg. Owing
1 to the distance the iron had to be hauled to
j market the enterprise did not pay anJ was
i soon abandoned. He afterwards engaged
j in lumbering; and in 1856 was elected Treas
urer of Cambria county. He afterwards
built a planing mill and manufactured
broom and brush handles in Ebensburg, and
when he had his establishment in successful
j operation it was burned down. He imme
I diately rebuilt the establishment, but be-
came financially embarrassed and lost his
i property. About six or seven years ago he
accepted a position with the Cambria Iron
company at Wheeler, Fayette county, where
he was ennagf d to the time of his death.

An Isgeviofb Clock. The Everett
Pre says there is in the vicit Ity of Wood
bury, Bedford countv, a young man noted ;
for his mechanical talent and skill, who is I
working at a wonderful clock, which, when J
complete, will, that paper believes, eclipse j
anything ever produced in th clock line, '
not excepting the famous Strasburg clock.
He bas been planning and working on this '
wonderful clock over five years and expects ;
to complete it in about a year. This im- j
mense time-piece when done will be twelve j
feet high by five feet wide and three and !
one half feet deep, built entirely of black
walnut wood. It is artistically designed,
and displays In its composition a grandeur
of proportion with it graceful mouldings
and delicate carved ornanierts. The ends
of the case will be ornamented with ex.
quisitely formed columns standing out in
fu'l relief, their bases resting on short ped
entals, and beautifully carved capitals, sup
porting an Indented frieze and entablature.
On the lower front is a circle of eleven dials,
with a large dial in the center, giving the
time at Washington. D C, in hours, min
utes and seconds, the wenth of the year,
the date of the month, thn week, the day of
the week, the four seasons of the year and
the changes of the moon. The remaining
eleven dials give the difference of time in
New Yortt, Chicago. San Francisco, jon
don, Paris, Pekin, Constantinople, Mel
bourne, Vienna, Cairo and St. Petersburg.
Among the many other curions features
more At a certain honr of the dav a figure
rpprfenfing William IT. Yanderhilt, the
great railroad kin?, arises from his chair,
holding a charter in his right hand, and in
turn all the great railroad kings of this
country slowly enter a door at his left, pass
and bow to him and enter a door to his
right and disappear. When your corres
pondent receives permission he will give
yonr readers full details of the workings of
this really wonderful masterpiece of art,
science and mechanicism combined.
