We gave a couple of weeks ago the par

in Clearfield comity on the person of Mr.
Mathias Hoffman, a resident of the northern
part of Cambria county. Daniel OTiara has
been arrested and bulged in the Clearfield

if the charge is fully brought home to him, it
will ail'ord general satisfaction if the sentence
of the Court be the heaviest that can be im

After some months' absence from our
columns, Mr M. Wolf, proprietor of the
Railroad Clothing House, Altoona. once
more invites the attention of the readers of
the Freeman to the large and elegant stock
of wearing apparel which can at all times l e
fiuind on his shelves and counters. Mr.
Wolf is a fair, s.inaie man to ileal with, and
when he pledges his word to sell as cheap as
any man in the business, it may be accepted
as a fact that he means what 'he says. At
least it is worth anyone's while to go and
see how it is himself.

By special arrangement made with the
W. U. teiegr:;ph company, the election news
from Ohio was delivered simultaneously at
the Republican headquarters in the main
room of the Court House and at Democratic
headquarters in the Mountain Hous. The
figures poun d in from 10 o'clock P. M. Tues

never-ending volume, when the lights were
put out and both Republicans and Democrats
went home sat isfied one that they had won,
and the other that they had lost. Among

Mary, youngest daughter, aged about
ten years, of Mr. C. T. Roberts, of this (dace,
while running at full speed after dark on
Wednesday evening last, had the misfortune
to strike her head witli such force against
the hitching bar in front of Mr. Huntley's

curbstone, receiving injuries of a very pain
ful though we are glad to say not dangerous
character. She was picked up insensible
and carried home, w here she soon recovered
consciousness, and is now doing as well as
could be expected.
A second growth r.f grapes from blos
soms which appeared on the vines after the
first crop had ripened and been gathered has
been placed on our table by our fal bor-in-law,
Mr. Martin Ward, of tills place. The grapes
are perfectly formed and the size of an aver
age pea, and. should the warm weather we
are now experiencing continue, ami had they
been nermitted to remain on the parent stem,
they would doubtless have attained full fru

the same gent man is to be seen another
vegetable curiosity in the shape of six small
heads of cabbage growing on one stalk.
Our venerable friei.d and patron. Mr.

Nearly three weeks ago, a difficulty oc

trouble grew out of a series of "lawsuits in
which the two men named had been interest

that he has met with a misfortune through
no fault of his own. which appeals to the

We were rejoiced to see on our streets

v. I), of tli.' Fifth regiment. N. (J., be- ;
longs to Altoona. It went to Bedford, last ,
Friday, in pursuance of an invitation extend
ed it to be present at the county fair, and its
experience, though pleasurable while going
to a::d lenr.iining there, was not np to the
highest notch of felicity during the return
trip. It was thought that satisfactory ar
rangements had been made for the transpor
tation of the company on special rates, but
this idea was disputed by the rrulroad au
thorities of the Ilroad Ton division, who :
seemed to look on these particular "sjer
boys" as a company of 1). B. 's. Some mem
bers of the organization, it is alleged, there
upon attempted to seize the. rolling stock of
the road an. I run it to suit themselves, but
were brought to a sudden realization of the
fact that such things were not permissible
in this free am! enlightened Republic Two
of them were arrested at Saxtcn and held in
$H m each to answer at the December term of
Bedford county in the charge of riot.
A Wr-F. Deacon. "Deacon Wilder, I
want you to tell me how yon kept yourself
and family weli the past season, w hen all the
rest of us nave been sick so much, and have
had the doctors vi.-iting us so often."
"Brother Taylor, the answer is very easy.
I u-ed Hop Bitters in time ; kept my family
well and saved the doctor bills. Three dol
lars' worth of it kept us well and able to
work all the time. I'll warrant it has cost
you and the neighbors one to two hundred
dollars apiece to keep sjek the same time."
"Deacon, I'll use your medicine hereafter."
To THosji who a re so unfoitur.ate as to be

a trial of Hairs Hair Renewer. We do so
with the utmost confidence, because it is
everywhere received with a marked favor,
and has built upon its own merits such a sure
foundation that it is known and used in all
civilized countries. Aidirn (X. '.) AJ-vr-
