turn of the constables of the several wards,
boroughs and townships were received.
The first case cailed. was that of the om'th
vs. John Hawker, William NetT, David
Keighard ami Jacob Siick. indicted for riot
and malicious mischief. On the night of t lie
gsth of April last, as appeared from the tes
timony, t hese pal tics entered the drinking
saloon" of ( Teorge Eaan. on Clinton street.
Johnstown, mill demanded liquor. ?Ir. Eaa'u
was of the opinion that they were already
laboring under as large a load as they could
conveniently carry, and refused to accede to
their demands, whereupon a low ensued
eliding in the ejectment of the parties from
the saloon. Immediately then-after, a half
doen brickbats ware hurled through the
window . not only breaking tiie glass, but put
ting the inmatvs of the house in fear of bodily
harm. Hawker, one of the prisoners, had no
counsel, and E. Kerr. Esq., was assigned
to ilf fetal him. After consultation, this de

remaining three defendants, whose interests
were looked after by Messrs. Potts and
