this telegram was an interrogatory as to

phraseology, is understood to have come back 1

Stineman, under protest of Mr. N. J. Freid

It is a well-known fact that a gang of
counterfeiters have for several years had
, their head. uarters on the confines of Cam
bria, Indiana and Clearfield counties. F.acli

nent occasions, at each county-sear, large
quantities of the bogus coin are shoved, to
tiie detriment of hotel-keepers and mer
chants. This, we say, is a well-known fact.
Put it may not be so "well known that inside
: this county, near the Indiana line, is an arti
ficial! cave hollowed in a hill-side wherein
much of the bogus money was at one time
made. This cave having been under the
surveillance of police detectives for several
' month- pa-!, it wrs of necessity abandoned,
! and a late visit thereto hy a certain officer of
the law resulted in the finding of nothing.
Put we are reliably informed that had the
search been prosecuted farther, and without
going many miles away front the cave, a big
bonanza of crime might have been struck.

gus coin are known to have been bicatcd in
one of our northern townships inside one
month preceding this date ! We are not espe
cially in the detective business, but we throw
out these hints for the benefit (if those who
