On Monday of next week, Messrs. Frank
M'Eanghlin and Win. P. Jones, residents of
this place, wiil start on a visit to Texas. A
colony which will comprise probably adoen
families propose removing from this section
to that distant State some time next fall,
nnd the object of the two gentlemen named
is to make'a personal inspection of the coun
try and choose a suitable point for locating.
They desire to settle in a body, if possible,
and, counting amongst their number mem
bers of nearly al? the useful trades, they
possess the dements for the founding of a
town which should be at least self-sustaining.
Their withdrawal from our midst will
be deplored, bnt it is hoped that what will

result in their great gain.
To "sweat" is defined as "being depriv

material substance through the excretories
of your pellucid cuticle with a sensible con

exterior." Tel rible, ain't it ? Yet there is
little need of any one going through so try
ing an ordeal if he only has the good sense
to go to the popular cheap clothing empori
um of Godfrey Wolff", next, door to the post
ctlico, Altoona, Pa., and purchase for him
self a suit of summer clothing which will
not only keep him cool enough to preserve
the "saline and oleaginous tluids of his ma

perfect satisfaction, as well in the price as
in the quality of the goods, which cannot be

It is the intention of the State Fish
Commission to locate another fish-breeding
establishment in the western part of the
State, and on Monday morning an agent of
said Commission arrived here to investigate
the merits of this section for the purpose
proposed. He viewed a number of springs
and streams tji the immediate neighborhood,
and is understood to have expressed himself
to the e fleet that, water and climate being
both considered, no better place than this
could be found anywhere for a fishery.
A nother visit will be paid at some day in the
near future, when a more comprehensive
examination will be made of the several
springs and some particular one probably be
lixed npou for purchase. Commissioner

the agent will be made.
The real estateof the M'Langhlin P.roth
ers, in this place, known as the "Zahin

signee, at public, sale, last Saturday. The
property comprehends the large storeroom

the building occupied by Collins, Johnston
t Co. for banking purposes, a dwelling
house and the usual outbuildings, with a half
lot of ground w hereon these are erected, now
in the occupancy of Wm. J. M'l.anghljn.
The bidding was spiritless and resulted in
the knocking down of the property to Coun

have been accounted cheap at twice that
sum. We do not know w hat disposition will
be made of the property by its new cwner,

.Oener.il Campbell, our Congressman, made
one of his infrequent visits to this section
the beginning of the present week, and
amongst those of his constituents who greet
ed him was Mr. Jones. "I voted for you
once," said Mr. Jones, "and mean to do so
again, for I think you have richly earned a
second term, lut there is one thing," he
went on to say iu a most impressive manner,
"there is one thing you ought tu tlo as soon
as you get. back to Washington city. You
ought to have that infernal law repealed
which keeps us from shooting squirrels at
this season of the year. They're eating up

Not many evenings ago the singular
spectacle cf a column of black ants on tho
march was witnessed at a point a few rods
south of the bridge which spans the Cone
mangh Im-Iow Griffith's dam. Some parties
who were fishing iu that vicinity had their
attention attracted to myriads of the insects
traversing a log which lay acrcss the water.
Examination demonstrated the fact th.it
they constituted a section of au army nu
merous ns Ihe sands of the desert, the ad
vance guard of whit h was lost in space to
ward the west, while the rear might have
extended back into Plair county for all that
could be determined to the contrary. The
fishermen looked and wondered for an hour
and when they finally turned away the on
ward march w as still progressing. Itissaid
to lie a peculiarity of ants while on the war
path that they move forward in a straignt
line, diverging neither to the rieht nor to
the left. If a house looms np before them,,
they go either through it or over it, by day
or by night. It is mainly for this reason
that we would like for all their future
marches to lie conducted at as least as safe a
distance from town as this one wad, for they
have teeth and can bite.
