ClTCUMVENTINO THE CLOTH MuTII.
Clothes moths are always worse in
the summer, writes the Ilev. J. O.
Wood, than in any other period of the
year; but there is one plan ly which
they may be baffled. It is simple, but
useful from its very simplicity, and
may be expressed in two woids
"brown paper." There is no such
protection against the clothes moth as
brow n paper. Years ago I purchased
an enormous rug of white wolf. -kin,
which has been of inestimable bent lit
to the whoie family. Kvery summer
I wrap it up in brown paper, and not
a moth has attacked it. Why the
clothe moih si ould have so great an
aversion to brown paper I cannot tell,
but such is the case. I find that pro
fessional furriers employ the same
plan, but do not. disclose that very
simple secret. Annually thousands of
valuable sealskin jackets and ot her furs
are handtd over to the dealers for
preservation during the summer, and
nothing is done except, wiapprng them
up in brow n pfper and letting them be
until the dawning of autumn. There
are. of course, instances whei furs
and o'iher simdar articles must cf ne
cessity be left exposed during the
en miner time. Let every piece of
these I violently shaken every morn
ing, ar.d not a clothes moth will hai lxr
within it. Gervianloicn ItlftjrajJi.

Value of Paint. 1 he Germans,
the -vol Id over celebrated for their in
dustrious habits and thrilt, have a
maxim that 'painting is no expense."
This theory, taken in a comprehensive
view, is undoubtedly correct. An o-j
casioiial coat of paint on theoutsideof
buildings prolongs their durability,
and n metallic surfaces prevents cor
rosion. It is a matter of doubt, how
ever, whether board fences, on account
of tieing exposed on cither side to
wind and sun, remain in a sound con
dition longer by receiving an addition
al coat of paint. We have seen them
not protected by any substance, st.and
iag after an existence of fifty years.
Frame houses ami barns are often
painted in daik colors, which are pre
ferable to white in tl lis latitude, as
the- have a tendency to absorb caloric
and render the stuettires warmer than
tliev would be if daubed with a lidit
or white shade. The whitewashing of
walls, fences and buildings produces a
lone of neatness, but alter a heavy
ruin or two the previous faultless color
is decidedly marred. Taint is more
durable in its nature, ami when ap
plied to either buildings oQ farming
utensils well repays the expense, ami
who. the latter are rcficshed in ap
pearance by an occasional application
it is in every respect of tid vantage.
