C. K. Zahm's Teal estate to-morrow, at the store-room recently occupied by Mr. Zahm, in this place. The property to Imi sold comprises a most desirable homestead, a flue store-room ar.d a square of ground in Ebensbiirg, bestdxs one tract of sixty-five and another of fourteet: acres (not seven, as heretofore stated,) in Cambria township, aa well as four valuable lots in Salitia, Kansas, all which will be sold without reserve. The hotel AtSummitville recently owned and occupied by John C. Itoland.'dee'd, was sold at public outcry, on Saturday last, to Mr. Jas. Glllin for S7S0, who subsequently turned it over to onrold friend John Carney, or .Monster township, at tlie same price, Gallitzin, the engineer of the gravel train, ine serious injury oi ins nretnar,-,J ames Hoic king, son of Mr. Turner Hopkins, of Ho'lif-' daysburg, and also of Mr. Bart. M'Cabe, of Cambria borough, engineer of the Grain. h train, as well as the slight injury of Messrs, Uii hatil Ilumphreys, fireman. Max. Kitter, brakeman, and Charles Lattener, passenger, all of this place. Of those injured Messrs. Hopkins ami M'Cabe fared the worst, the former having had one of hi legs so fear fully crushed that no less than two amputa tions had to be resorted to forthwith, the first lx;low and the last alove the knee, le Side9 receiving several other severe injuries about the liody, while Mr. M'Cabe had six cf his ribs broken and a large piece of flesh torn from each side of his brow, rtoove the eyes, as neatly as if they had leen cut out by a knife, lie is also, it is feared, injured internally, and his condition, like that of Mr. Hopkins, is believed to be rather pre carious. The injuries of the other three gentlemen are principally about the face and are not of a serious character, those of Mr. Ki fter being in tlie nature of a burn, received by being thrown against one of the stoves in the pltssehgercafi itoth engines were badly demoral;Kel j several trucks more or less damaged, and many of the seats in the pas senger car were considerably nsed up by the force of the collision, white the "shook"with which the trucks from this place were laden were scattered in al! directionsi To the fact that these trucks were next to the engine may no doubt lw attributed the escape from injury, if not from death, of those on ttoard the pri-ssnger car. As it was they were all shook up considerably and of course badly which is Just 51,050 less than Mr. Roland t frightened. Air. i'airish. whose death was paid for it a few yuars ago. Mr. Carney, we understand, disposetl of his tine farm in Monster township to some gentleman from Johnstown for the sum of 5(5,000, ami in tends, wo presume, to remove to and occupy as a private residence the property bought by him at the Summit. It looks as if there was a deficiency or 5S,T' 37 in the accounts of S. J. Miller, late Treasurer of Westmoreland county, and fortlie life of him Mr. Miller declares that he cannot tell how the deficit has occurred. The connty will lose nothing, however, as the Iminlsmeii are perfectly good. Mr. Mil ler asks for a suspension of public opinion until further light, if possible, Is thrown on the subject, and declares his willingness to turn over all his property and assets in order to make up the loss, if such there proves to be. It is thought ossibl that vouchers may have been stolen from his ollice by de signing and unscrupulous persons for sinis ter purposes. The ethertal mildness, so to speak, which has for the most part characterized the present winter thus far has no doubt prompted many of the sterner sex to put off the purchase of comfortable clothing which they really needed, hat now that grim old winter has assumed undisputed sway and Mr. Groundhog has ln-en, gone aud seen his shadow, there is no further excuse for de clining to call at the renowned Oak Hall Clothing Store of S. J. Hess, 241 and 243 Main street, Johnstown, and Investing iu a comfortable outfit, which can now lie Itonght at the lowest of panic prices, as a clearance of shelves for the coming spring stook is what Mr. Hess desires, no matter what the sacri fice. In the Ttlair county court last week no less than eight persons were sentenced o the penitentiary for terms ranging from one year and three months to four years and three months. Three of these, namely, Martin Fcighter, John Smith and Thomas Dunn, were convicted of arson, the first receiving one year and nine months, the second two years and three months, and the latter four years and three months' imprison ment. Four of the others, fo wit, John Khringer, Jacob Drown, Frank Leroy and James Henderson, were found guilty of larceny and were each sentenced to an im prisonment of one year and three mouths' duration, while the eighth and last, Roliert Barnard, was granted .he privilege of so journing in the same institution for a period of one year and six months. By the side of an un frequented road leading from an old stoue quarry ou the Adams' estate to the town ship road, about one mile east of Summitville borough and probably a quarter of a mile from the turnpike, was found, on Friday afternoon last, the lifeless and decomposed body of an unknown man, about whose tragic faking oft' an air of mystery prevails which in all probability will never be solved in this world. The discovery was made by Mr. Charles Johnstou, who for tlie first time in many months passed along the road re ferred to on his way back from an examina tion of several traps he had. set for game in the vicinity. Tlie lxxly was found hanging across two logs in close proximity to each other, aud although the head had rotted and fallen from the body, the flesh was a mass of putrid matter, and the eyes had been picked from Ihebead, evideutly by the crows, there" was still enough left to indicate that the skit 11 had been flushed in, possibly by accident, but seemingly by a club in the hands of a second party. Near the remains were found an old pistol without a pivot, an open pocket-knife and a box of matches, all apparently dropped by the deceased, bnt may hap placed there to evade suspicion, while on the ground near at hand lav a pocket-liook containing four centsaml a little further on still another cent was picked up. The clothes on the de ceased were sufficiently well preserved to show that they were of no mean quality, while the hat and shoes were also of rather superior make. The body hail no doubt lain where it was found for several months, and the discovery recalled the fact that a very offensive stench was noticeable in that vi cinity early last fall by persons picking berries near the spot. John Sharbaugh, Esq., of Summitville, being notified of the discovery, empanelled a jury and held an inquest, but as no light could be thrown upon the mystery a verdict of "found dead" was the only one that could be rendered under the circumstances, the remains being too much decomposed to permit even the slightest clue to tho cause or manuer of death. f rx)CAL connspoifDENCE. The party, us stated by the Itpunirfrlon correspon dent of tho Altoona jlfirrrir was a select one, invitations hsvinjr been sent out some days previous to those who were wanted there. Even thinp-passed otT quietly until a party of rouirhs. said to be twcnty-oijrht In nil, made their appearance and hcipm to showotT in their usual way. They ennui there determined to rid the house, hut failed fo do It, so after firlnjr several shots thy disappeared. Two of them belomriDir to "The Patch" claimed to be shot. Whether they were r not remains a mystery, as I have seen no one yet who could substanti ate tho story. Two of the party invited, be loinrinir to Tunnel Hill, were slightly wounded. None of those rouirhs, however, belonged to Tunnel Hill, and there w only one from here who was not invited, and he took no part In the frie.a, nnd the balance, who were invited, did their utmost to settle the squabble before any harm was done. Therefore I think tho Bonntiif ton correspondent should not uojustly coudeniu younir men who are too often put down for errors committed by others.
