    MveiCAti STrPiDiTTEP. A common
Fcnse listener thus describes the perform
ance of ome of oar church tnuMC, and the
effect produced upon his mind :
"1 tie soleinu wm ship of God was intro
duced by a solo, 'Consider the lilies,' per
formed by the leading singers of the choir,
gracefully accompanied by the oian. rx).
far as the music was . concerned, it was
beautifully awd faultlessly rendered. The
effect upon Any mind, b wcver, was any
thing but devotional. The singers com
menced, 'Consider the lilies of the field,'
Ac, and when. elie came up to the applica
tion' it ran' I bus : 'And yet I t-ny unto you
that evnii Solon:on, in alMils glory was
not arrayed like one of these was not ar
rayed was not arrayed like one of these
was not Arrayed ( interlude by the organ
was not Arrayed interlude by the organ
liko one of these.' ! And then she went
Lack xg.iin, and asseverated in the most
eniphaticT manner, 'I say unto you that even
Holonum, in nil his glory, was not anayed
was not arrayed was not arrayed' (pause.)
until I becan to despair for uoor Solomon,
lest he should- never get the very first of
his garments on.
"1 hero was yet pnoll.er piece of church
not sacred luwr":, in which the soprano
led ofl wi'Ii the announcement, 'I will
wash ;' and then came in the contralto, 'I
will wash; and then the tenor, 'I v ill wasli ;
arid then from the i.iofou ndes I depths
comes up the gn'!f ral of the ba-o, saying
also, 'I will w afli ; and last of all they
strike In togMhcr, crying out in oncert, '1
vr ill wash.' No one could imagine that thie
singular and oft-repeated announcement of
an intended ablution was a rendering in sa
cred s'njr for the spiritual edification of a,
hristian congregation of those solemn
words of the Tsalmist. "I will wash my
bands m innocv.ry; bo I will cuinpasi thine
altar, Oh, Lo.d !"."

named Harvey started a weekly paper at
Williamson's, Ingham' county, called tho

had been set for tho inside, Harvey was
in tho yard back of the office digging Csh

"See here, Harvey, yon are not doing as
you should," commenced the gentleman ;
"here it is Friday, and you haven't worked

"I see I haven't," sk wly replied the

"1 presume I did," drawled Harvey,

He took his rod and went to the banks
of the Cetlar, and when he returned the of

the day before would lenVce'.y condescend
