- Mr. David Powell, an old and well
know n citizen of Cambria township, died

brofcen. Mr. Powell was one of the wealth
iest men in this section.
While Mrs. Kearnswasat Morri.sdale,
Clarfield county, on the night of tlie 11th
inst., having in charge the dead hotly of
her huhband, who bad been killed the day
previous, some unsanctificd scoundrel en
tered her house at Kylerville and carried
away about fifteen bushels of coin, from
six to eight bushels of potatoes, and sev
eral bottles of homemade wine.
The people of Cambria county, w ith
out distinction. of party, arc requested to
meet at the Court, House in Lbcnsburg,
on Tuesday next, Dec. 2d, and also ou
Tuesday, Dec. 1), to give expression to
their views in reference to the adoption or
rejection of the new Constitution on the
lCth day of. December. Those opposed to
as well as those in farorof itsadoptiou are
earnestly invited.
We regret to learn that our venerable
and rtsp-ectud townsman, Mr. Peter Col
lins, sr., had the misfortune, on Monday
last, to blip and fall 011 the steps leading
from the rear porch of his residence, there
by sustaining injuries of the back aud oth
erwise which may, considering hisextreme
age, prove even more serious than those
received by him in a similar manner a year
or so ago, if indeed they do not tend to
hasten his death.
A man named Henry Cooper, sup
posed to be under the influence of liquor,
was stiuck by the engine of a western
bound freight traiu, about one mile east of
Conemaugh, on Tuesday eveuing last, arid
knocked into the river, from which he was
rescued, by some xrsoiis who witnessed
the mishap, just in time to save him from
drowning. As it is, his injuries are of a
very severe character, though hopes are
entertained of his recovery.

the first fast freight, was instantly killed
at East Cov.en.aiigh, on Thursday evening
of last week, by being stiuck, knocked
down and run over by two freight caisand

time, aud was struck by the froot car and
thrown across one of the rails, with the re
sult stated. The unfortunate man was a
resident of Altoona, where he was only re
cently married. The coi-oner's inquest ex
onerated the train men from all blame.
A match game of billiards, to deter
mine the chttmpionship of Johnstown, was
played yesteiday (Thursday) afternoon be
tween four young men of that place. How
the contest ended is tif course unknown to

afraid to say that we have a young man in
our employ who will, for a reasonable con

A terrible accident occurred at Derrr
Station, on Monday afternoon hu-t. Johnny
Smith, a boy between fifteen and sixteen
years of age, was engaged in holding a
fractious horse, near the railroad track,
when an engine, in backing down, fright
ened the horse and caused it to rear "and
plunge in a fearful manner. Tho boy still
clung tenaciously to the bridle. In some
manner or other the horse full on the little
fellow, breaking ljis back, his jaw in two
places, and his hip, besides giving him
some very severe internal injuriesT from
whicli he died soon after.
