and the kindling not igniting as rapidly as

bon oil upon it from a can, when an explo
sion followed and lhe burning oil immedi
ately enveloped her clothing. She imme
diately ran to the street and commenced
rolling in the snow, and by that means ex
tinguished the tiames. Several parsons who
ran to her assistance were under the impres
sion that although her clothing was almost
consumed she was not seriously burned, as
she w alked unattended info the house. She
immediately took her lied, however, and
after lingering in great agony until Satur
day ex-eiiing, expired. It is presumed that

Several attomv, with tlie officers of tha

upon the draft of a new bill for the resusci
tation of the District Court, which will be
preseiited to the Legislature by our member
of Asseml ly, Mr. Henry. The only hitch in
the matter appears to he that the former
Judges desire the Court to Is' remodeled in
such a way as to retain the said officers, al
though they are satisfied that it is meet au.l
procr that a new Clerk should la; elected.
A "respectable minority" contend that an
entire new deal shall be made, and unless
some satisfactory compromise can lie agreed
upon, there is a prospect that t lie matter xvill
remain in .!ur' quo. The probability is that
"the friends of the Court" will "agree to

Killed Instantly.--A young lad named
Watson McClelland, nephew of Commission
er McClelland, aged thirteen years, met
xvith a sudden death while at. his employ
ment as engineer at the men bant mills of
the C. I. Co., in Johnstown, oil Thursday
last. While playing with several ot her boys
in the vicinity of lhe fly-wheel of hisengine,
hu tripped and fell against one of the spokes
of the wheel, which was revolving rapidly,
and was carried around one revolution and
thrown xxith great force against an oil cui
laiard, some twenty feet distant. The force
of the concussion killed him instantly, al
though no bones were apparently broken.
The unfortunate lad was the son of a widow,
his father having died suddenly about four
mouths ago.
