country as regards completeness of machine
ry, adaptation of parts to each other, where
in consists the beauty and facility of your
English mill each and every part, every
minute detail, corresponding and acquiescing
w ith the other. The gentleman referred to
has had huge experience in the practical af
fairs of iron works, and he says he is confi
dent that lie never saw a more promisiHg out
look for a compict mill, at so earlv a stage
of construction. In some future letter 1 will
doubtless give you a more detailed descrip
tion of the work; for the present suffice it to
say there, is a spirit of eiiu-rprie iM-rvading
the w hole affair which cannot fail of success.
I am reliably informed that the mill build
ing situated a she i t distauce north-w est of
this city, and the property ot S. C. Uaker,
Esip, will shortly pass into the hands of a
company of Eastern capitalists, who design
converting it into a tw ine, thread and cord
factory. More again concerning this.
From the ashes of the ruined Ixgau House
is raising up a magnificent building with

along the avenue, I noticed that they had
commenced the third story.

largest and best deposits. "Remember, how
ever, that they are not digging diagonally
into the mountain, but are continuing their
perpendicular descent. How deep they in
tend to go I cannot say, but suppose they
will go on through if the ore holds out.

Jacob riruhaker, like many another grvxl
man, got his skin full of lienr.ine at St. Au
gustine, recently, and was put in an upper
room of a hotel there for safe keeping. Ho
