A limn Compliment. It is not at all surpris
ing that certain cracker manufacturers Miould
find it to their advantage to imitate Messrs.
Marvin & Co. as closely as possible. This is cer
tainly the highest compliment they could pay
this firm, and if their efforts were confined to
making as good, or if possible better, articles
in their lineof business, this competition would
be legitimate uud honorable. But we regret to
learn that this imitation consists in copying
the shape and styles of Marvin & t'n.'s boxes ami
other packages : iu imitating the brands, labels,
lettering and marking ; adopting even the color
of the inks employed ; and in short approximat
ing as nearly to Marvin & Co.'s trade-marks as
it is possible to do without direct infraction of
the hew. - By these disingenious methods, pur
chasers have been deceived iuto buying au in
ferior article of cracker, cake, or biscuit, under
the impression that they were obtaining Mar
vin & Co.'s; ami tho latter firm has beeu un
justly charged with manufactures that were
not up !o their standard. To avoid this danger,
let purchasers, in orders to their grocers, be
sure to specify Marvin & Co.'- v nrious crackers;
also, to note carefully the marking of tho pack
ages, or. if convenient, make t heir purchases
at the Bakery, Nos. yi ami U3 Liberty btroet,
