Cherry Peouoral.
Por Diseases of tho Tltroat and Lungs,
such, as Coughs, Colds, Whooping
Cough, Bronchitis, Asthma,
and Consumption.
Among the great
discoveries of modern
science, few are of
more real value to
mankind than this ef
fectual remedy for all
diseases of the Throat
and Lungs. A vast
trial of its virtue?,
throughout this and
other countries, has
shown that . it does
surely and effectually
control them. Tho testimony of our best citi
zens, of all classes, establishes the fact, that
Cherry Pectoral, will and does relieve and
cure the atflicting disorders of the Throat and
Lungs beyond any other medicine. The most
dangerous affections of the Pulmonary Organs
yield to its power; and cases of Consump
tion, cured by this preparation, are pmblic
ly known, so remarkable as hardly to bo be
lieved, were they not proven beyond dispute.
As a remedy it is adequate, on which the public
may rely for full protection. By curing Coughs,
the" forerunners of more serious disease, it saves
unnumbered lives, and an amount of suffering
not to be computed. It challenges trial, and convince.--
the most sceptical. Every family should
keep it on hand as a protection against the early
and unperceived attack of Pulmonary Affections,
which are easily met at first, hut which become
incurable, and too often fatal, if neglected. Ten
der lungs need this defence ; and it is unwise to
be without it. As a safeguard to children, amid
tho distressing diseases which beset the Throat
and Chest of childhood, Chekry Pectoral,
is invaluable; for, by its timely use, multi
tudes aro rescued from premature graves, and
saved to the love and affection centred on them.
It acts speedily and surelv against ordinary col ls,
securing sound and health-restoring sleep. No
one will sutler troublesome Isitlueiiza and pain
ful Itronchitis, when they know how easily
thev can be cured.
Originally the product of long, laborious, and
successful chemical investigation, no cost or toil
is spared in making every bottle in the t-.tmost
jossililj perfection. It may be confidently re
lied upon as possessing all the virtues it has" ever
exhibited, and capable of producing cures as
inemorablo as the greatest it lias ever effected.

Every year increases the popularity
of lliis valuable Hair Preparation;
vrhicli is clue to merit alone. "VVe can
assure our old patrons that it is kept
fully up to its high standard; and it
is the only reliable and perfecteel prep
aration for restoring Gkay or Faded
Hair to its youthful color, making it
soft, lustrous, and silken. The scalp,
by its use, becomes "white and clean.
It removes all eruptions and tlandrufij,
and, by its tonic properties, prevents
the hair from falling out, as it stimu
lates and nourishes the hair-glands.
By its use, the hair grows thicker and
stronger. In baldness, it restores the
capillary glands to their normal vigor,
and will create a new growth, except
in extreme old age. It is tho most
economical Hair Dressing ever used,
as it requires fewer applications, and
gives the hair a splendid, glossy ap
pearance. A. A. Hayes, il.D State

suggest that our Gove-rr rr.e-nt alor.e should
possess this secret, as, all th.o most import! t

a style une.ptK.led. We will here add that
we have been intimalery' acqna?nted with
Col. bkdgart for more than tweuty years past.
He is the author T the "Lif,.- of Itobert Ful

zette. Dkcidldly Good. Will Carleton, the
ri.dugyoung poet, iu an editorial p.. cm, thus
tells how a farmer took a youngster of his to
a printing office to be made into an editor,
being fit for nothing else :
Tho editor sat in his tar.ctum and looked
the old man in the eye,
Then glanced at the grinning young hrne
ful, and mournfully made his re'ply :
"Is your S 'n a small unbound edition of
llos'-s and Solomon both?
"Can he comp.-.9s his spirit with meekness,
and strangle a natural oath ?
"Can he leave all his wrongs to tbo future,
and carry bis heart in his cheek ?
"Can be do an hour's work in a minute,
and live on tixperice a week ?
'Can he courteously talk to an equal, and
biowleat an impudent dunce ?
'Can ho keep things iu apple pie order,
aud do a dozen at once ?
"Can he press ali the springs of knowledge
with a quick and reliable touch ?
"And 1 e sure that he knows how much to
krow.and knows how to not know too much?
'D...es he know how to stir up bis virtue,
and put a check-rein on his pride ?
"Can he carry a gentleman's manners
within a rhinoceros' hide ?
Can he know all. and do all, and be all,
with cheerfulness, courage and vim?
"I.f so, we perhaps can be making an sui
tor outen o'. him."
The farmer stood curiously listening, while
wonder his visage o'erspread ;
And he said, "Jim. I guess we'll be golu';
h's probably out of his head."
The " eby Latft. The following 3 tho
newest advertisement in the Philadelphia
Bulletin : 1
Wanted a man to elore with my wife.
IIo must be a man e f courage, and strong as
an ox. He must be one with a healthy con
stitution, and able to do with little sleep.
A sailor would suit best one who has been
accustomed to big blows. Jdy wife has
many good points for a man who could ap
preciate them. I cannot. She can tak
faster than lightning can travel, and louder
than a railroad w histle can scream. She
doesn't care much for tho amenities, but is
very powerful on the ascerbities of life. She
would be a good assistant in a vinegar fac
tory, she's ho 6cur ; and would be a noble
companion for a man living in a country
where there are plenty of bears, she's so
powerful in hugging. To any man who
feels like enticing my wife to elope with
him, I will pay $50 aud tho expenso of the
elopement. Should my blessing be consid
ered ef any consequence, I'll throw it in.

In New Haven, Conn., there is a needle
factory where the whole process is done by
a single machiue without the labor of any
person. It cuts the pieces of steel wire con
secutively, punches the eye holes, counter
sinks the eyes and grinds the points, and, in
fact, dc-ea everything until the needle drop3
out completely formed. Another machine
picks them up and arranges them, heads and
points together, and a third piece of mechan
ism puts them into paper. One of theso
machines occupies no more space than an
ordinary table, and each of them turns out
from thirty to forty thousand needles a day.
Most of the needle3 hitherto ia use have been
imported from England until withia a few
years past.
