in which a certain Itev. Wass.t pitches into j

merits. The lecturer proves cienrly that it is j
not for the best interests of laborers to str ke j
and then lie idle in order to get rich. The j
more work is done, the better it is for society i
at large, and as a "competency is all wo can
enjoy" the difference between, a rich and a
poor u:au U uot go much, after all. "AH the
E. & C. Turnpike. We are gratified to
learn from our Senator, Gen. Whito, that the
bill incorporating a company to construct a
turnpike from Kbensburg to the Cherry Tree,
has passed the Senate. We trust Mr Rose
will give it his special attention in the House.
It is an important project to the peoplo resi
ding between this place the northern portion
of the county, aud if the proper degree ot pub
lic spirit and enterprise is manifested along the
liue of the proposed road, its speedy comple
tion is a foregone conclusion.
The Ladies' Fair will re open without
fail, on Monday evening next, with a fine dis
play of beautiful articles, comprising many
new contributions, and remain open daring the
continuance of Court. It will be enlivened by
excellent music, both vocal and instrumental,
und by comic burlesques of the most laugha
ble character, which will be presented from
