    HOW STRANGE IT WILT. BE.

Shalt be what all lovera become
You rigid and faithless, I cold and untrue.
ou thouffhtleai of mc and I cureless of you.
Our pet names grown rusty with nothiujr to do
Love's bright web unraveled aud rent and worn

And life'i loom left empty ah, hum 1
Ah, mt! !
How gtranse it will be.
How ptranne It will be when the witchery goes
Which makes tne soem lovely to-day,

When every day serves some new fault to dis

Whrn you jlnd I'vo cold eyes aud an everv-day
At J wonder you oould for a momeut suppose
I was out of the cominou place way ;
Ah, me !
How strange it will be t
now strange it will be, love, how strange when

With Just a chill touch of the hand ;
when my pulses no longer delightfully beat
At the thought of your coming' at the sound
of your foot:
When I watch not your coming: far down the

When your dear, loving: voice, so thrilling-ly
Grows harsh in reproach or command ;
Ah, mel
How strange it will be 1
IIow rtranfre it will be when we willingly stay
Divided the weary day throujrli ;
Or, Retting remotely apart as we ranv,
Kit chilly and silent, with nothing to"sav.
Or coolly converse on the news of the dav.
In a wearisome, old-married-folks sort of way S
I shrink from the picture dou't you ?
Ah me!
How "strange it will be 1
Dear love, if our hearts do irrow torpid and cold,
As many others tvive done ;
If we do 1ft our love perish with hunger and

If we dim ail life's diamonds and tarnish its gold,
If we chooso to live wretched aud die uncon

Hannibal's Skeleton. Thousands of per
sons throughout the United Slates, who have
gazed in wonder upon the colossal proportions
of Van Amburch's famous ele liaut "Hanoi
bul," on exhibition in this country about forty
eix years, the largest specimen of the species
ever imported into this country or Eurooe. will
be interested in the final disposal ot his bones,
which, we understand, are to be added to the
zoological curiosities of 2ew York Central
lurk.
Hannibal died at Centerville, Md., in about
tn r.met.eth year of his age, in May, 18C6
1 be complete skeleton of an elephant being
very oitncult to obtain, a,e bones are very val
uable, and treat precaution e. e consequent! v
taken to preserve those of Hannibal, and under
the charge of Albeit Touseud, the carcass
was dragged t a hold abmt a mile from fie
village, and a lare and strong mausoleum of
masonry erected over it. There it was suffered
to remain until the flesh had wasted awav suf
ficiently to permit the removal of the bones.
So great was the mass that not until a lew days
eince was it thought advisable to open the tomb.
The bones have been cleansed, transported
to the Central Park and set up in tbe zoologi
cal department, there to remain an object of
interest to visitors until the touch of time
causes them to crumble iato dust.
Tbe above article was started by a New
York paper some time ago and lia9 been go
ing the rounds of the press. It contains
several serious errors which we feel it our
duty to correct. In the first place Hannibal
did not die at "Centerville, M1.," but at
Centerville, in this county. His carcass was
not "dragged to a field about a mile from
the village, and a strong mausoleum of ma
sonry erected over it," but a large ditch was
dug close by where the monster expired and
his body rolled ir.to it. His tomb has not
been opened, and his bones have not "been
cleansed, transported to the Centra! Park,
and set up ia the zoological department there
to remain an object of interest to visitors"
"who by thousands throng the most beauti
ful park in Ameiica. Hannibal's body still
"lies mouldering in the grave" in our own
Valley of Cumberland, and the sight-peer who
poes to the zoological department of Central
Park for the purpose of gaziug on the out
lines of the colossal proportions of the odcc
famous elephant will be fooled, muchly.
"We understood, however, that the Park Com
missioners have been negotiating, for some
time, with Mr. Whip, on whose farm the
tones of Hannibal are resting, to have the
carcass shipped to Sew York, but up to this
iiaie t;ie parties have been unable to come
tutiima. When that important event comes
o pat-s our readers shall know it. In the
roeau time if any curious individual wishes
to visit the grave of Hannibal, he will find
it near Centerville. Bedford Gazette.
Learn a Trade Don't be Idle. "A
man that is too well born for a trade, is
very well born for the gallows.' There is
a deal too much disrespect for houest labor
for the healthful maintenance of either mor
als or government. There obtains a notion
among a great class of people that when a
person is relieved, by the possession of prop
erly, irom me necessity ol arduous toil, it
becomes a degradation for him to labor at
all. If the habit of worn is so fixed that
the moneyed man cannot remain idle, he
apologizes for it as a sort of vice and refers
to "habit" much as he would to addiction
to opium or rum, as somethiug to be ashamed
of, but which, unfortunately, had got the
better of hiui. His children are carefully
educated to "slink the shop" and turn up
their noses at those who work for a livin".
In seeking matrimonial alliances for theuj
he lKks for wealth rather than industry,
and chooses as a husband for his daughter
the man who has his inheritance in the
bank, uo matter hounfitted he may be to
cope with misfortuue, rather than the man
who has a fortune in bis brain, and will
win his own way. Idleness and extrava
gauce are curses worse than plagues of
Egypt to us; they breed sorrow, wretched
ness, crime ami infamy ; and send our sons
into drunkard's graves and felou's cells, and
pet our daughter on the streets, into mad
houses and garrets of poverty. Every boy,
rich or poor, should be taught that idleuess
is crime and girls should be taught it no
less than boys. Every child bhould be
taught some trade, and our school system
should be so reformed and improved that
youug children should acquire the rudiments
cf technical education. N. Y. Sun.
Cure fob Wounds. The Melbourne Ar
gus speaks of a gentleman who received a
kick from a hoise below the knee of the
right leg. The wound was partially healed,
but it broke out again, and spread until the
whole of the lower part of the leg was af
fected. Having heard of the success of the
earth treatment in other cases, be procured
some virgin soil takeu from below the roots
of the grass and applied it to the wound,
which at that time was as larfe am his ban. I
c ,
and caused the leg to be much swollen. The
result was that the swelling was reduced in
the girth measurement three inches on the
first application. The treatment was con
tinned for three weeks, at the end of which
time the wound was quite healed.
