No. 275 Htt Eleventh street, on the 5th
instant und in tha sixty-seventh year of
Lis ace. At halfpaet -nine o'clock on the
morning wf the 7th inefc., t"he remains
were conveyed to St. Joseph's Church,
Sixth avenua, where a Solemn Mass of
Hequiem was celebrated by the Ilev.

family of the deceased. At the conclusion
cf the Alas absolution was pronounced by
the Archbishop, after which the remains
were conveyed to the cemetary t Ford
ham College, where they were deposited
in the same vault in which repose the re
xoains of his daughter.
' Sir. lioJrigue was a native of Philadel
phia, and wn of French descent. At the
close of lis collegiate education he visited
France, and during hi3 three years stay
devoted Li niif If to th s'.udy of art with
the view of adopting it as his profession.
On his return he entered the oSie of Mr.
Strickland, tha well-known Philadelphia
architect, and wub connected with the
erection of the United States Dank. He
was subsequently engaged in surreying ex
peditions through the Htates of Pennsyl
vania and Virginia, ad also in Can tda.
Among his works while living in Phila
delphia he furnished the plan and design
of St. John's Church, of which the late
illustrious Archbishop of New Yoik wa
photor. In the year 1833 he removed to
New York with bis family, and resumed
the practice of his profession In this city.
The Church cf St. Francis Xaier, in
Sixteenth street, was built on his plane
and specification:!, as was also the Cl'.ur. h
ef the Iniraacuhlte Conception, ia Four
teenth street. In both instances, how
ever, the limited means atcomaaand com
pelled a modification of the original design.
We should state here that the very fine
addition to the old St. Patrick' Cathedral,
a work which was universally admired
for its beauty of design and urchitectaral
finish, was made by the deceased. Tbe
last important work with which the late
Mr. Rodrigee was connected was the iew
St. Patrick's Cathedral. la this he was
associated with llr. Renwick, but for
several years past his failing health con
lined him almobt entirely indoors, and he
took no active part ia tire practical super
intendence of its erection.
Mr. RjJrigue was related to the late
Archbishop1 of New York, having keen
married to the sister of that distinguished
prolate a lady who i beloved and re
spected by all who possess the honor of
her friendship or acquaintance. The de
ceased gsntleciaa was earnestly devoted to
bis profession, too much so to fall in wi.h
lbs ptle of the present day a style in
which the KuitMotlal and the artistic is
too often sacrificed to less worthy conrid
cratioQS. As a man, he was esteemed by
all "who knew him fur his integrity of
character, bid courteous demeanor, and
the virtues of a true Christian gentleman.
An affectionate and devoted husband and
father, he has left behind him a memory
that will nevur cease to be cheiiehed.
