Work has been resumed on the mag
nificent Roxuan Catholic Cathedral, on
Fifth avenue, New; York, projected by
Archbishop Hughes, the corner stone of
which was laid August 15, 1858. Its
extreme length will be 325 feet ; extreme
breadth, 174 feet ; general breadth, 132
feet. It is to cost $4,000,000.
- A manufacturer in. Boston lately re
marked that he had in his employ thirty
girls whom he did not pay as much wages
ms their board amounted to. lie wai
asked how he supposed they managed to

The Boston Traveler recalls the inter
esting historical fact that Maximilian is
the most respectable member of one of the
most ancient of the reigning houses of the
old world, a house that was at the head
of the Holy Roman Empire long before
Mexico had been heard of among Christ
ians, and which ruled over Mexico for al
most two centuries, from the time that
Cortez conquered it for Charles I, (V of
Germany,) in 1521, to tho death ot
Charles 11, in 1700.

Troy, N. Y., sitting in her room, was
instantaneously oppressed with tho con
viction that her little son had fallen from

the ground below. She repelled the

with such force that she was unable to re
pi st it. She hurried to the bedside of her
son, and there, to her intense horror, she
