Win. Swauk died on Sunday morning,
j soon alter one o'clock, of diabetes, from
which ho had been suffering for a long
time. He was 50 years old. He leaves
a wife, seven sons and lour daughters, all
| of whom were at home for the luneral

; Idaho He has one brother, Benjamin,
in Mich., sister down the state somewhere.
| He came to Cameron county in 1870 to
j work in the lumber woods, and has lived
, here since that time. He was married
| to Miss Elizabeth Brooks, daughter of
. John Brooks of the East Fork.
The few nice days of farming have
, quit, being followed by a rain this lnoin
j ing. The prospects for apples this year
I arc pretty slim, as the trees are not put
| ting out any blossoms. Plums, pears and
j peaches, where there are any trees, have
, blossomed full, but we shall have to wait
j the outcome of late frosts, before con
j trading to furnish any for market,

J. H. Logue and Jas. Donley came
in Saturday with a fine pail of trout
from Cooks Run.
A couple of "dagoes" were seen fish
ing last Sunday on First Fork. Where
is the fish warden?
C. A. Council was in Lorshbaugh
one day last week and got a fine basket
full of trout; the,largest was|l4, inches.
It is reported that the Box Mill will
change bands soon. We hope to some
one who will make a success with it.
Two young chaps caught a porcupine
up the Run a few days agp and burnt
his quills off, dragged him a mile, put
his eyes out and then let the poor
animal go.
Pap Blodget was at Emporium Mon
day after his new store teeth. He says
he will have an iron mask when he
catches any more of Davis' curves.
Geo. W. Batclielder went to Mina
Potter county to work for tho Penn
Lumber Co.
Trout fishermen are plenty but only
a few trout caught as yet.
W. H. Davis is improving his lot
this spring with a new fence. He is
painting it green.
Sheril Mead is at the powder works
at Emporium this spring.
R. D. Walker went to Mina, Potter
county, last week to work for the Penn
Lumber Co.
A. J. Barclay is getting his corn
ground. He will plant about twenty
acres.
J. R. Batchelder will commence
planting this week. He will plant
about six acres of corn.
Amos Bennett is rushing the state
road with a full crew now, as he only
has this month to work.

Mr. C. Weirstall departed for home

Mr. W. recently returned from a three
months' trip in Germany, having been
away Irom his home the past twelve
years. He greatly enjoyed the trip.
Our town gained two new residents
last week in persons of Chas. Britto,
who occupies Sheriff Norais' farm and
Mr. E. A. Campbell and wife, third
trick tnan on the Pennsy, who occu
pies the greenhouse on the corner.
Both families are very agreeable to
meet.
The masculine members of the fish
ing party on Four Mile, a few weeks
ago, desire nothing miscon
strued as to what might have occurred
during the excursion.
The Misses Edwards departed for i
Lock Haven Normal last week where
they improve their school knowledge
at that excellent school. We look for
some fine teachers in the near future.
The Pennsy established catcher ser- j
vice here for the mails to-day. There ' ,
will be no use of inquiring whether the j
"pouch has gone over" when this de
vice is installed. Many are not stuck
on the service any more, having but
one mail a day An auto line would
work in well for the deficiency in the
mail service.
An Italian opened a grocery at Ship
pen last week. He will make Ameri
can merchants look well to the east
and south.
County Treasurer, C. J. Howard has
returned to his country home and we
are pleased to welcome him back
among us. He is busy remodeling his
! pleasant home. Mr. \V. A. Clark and
| Ed. Sizer are doing the work. They
are uot clear gine on the "blooded
i dog"—they enjoy him at a distance.
Ferinemore Ames departed for Mee
i hoppen, Pa., yesterdsy, where ho will

| latives. He received his first check
| from Uncle Sam, by the special act of
Congress, at the rate of $.50 00 per
month, which he received through the
efforts of Congressman Barclay.
