Wesley Barr. of the Tunnel Hill Navigation Company, passed our village enroute to Sinnamahoning with a large raft of logs, consigned to the new box factory at that point. As the craft passed the tower, Captain Barr removed his cap and ordered a salute of 21 guns to be fired, which made the mountains resound as if the days of "61" were back again. This class of old time river cap tains arc fast passing away and only a tew survivors are left who used to brave the treacherous waters of the West Branch with their crafts. He looks hale and hearty in spite of his many years be fore the mast. In talking over old times the Captain has kindly given us some of the old sonizs which the happy rollicking crews used in the old days, one of which we are permitted to publish in this issue: I have shook the hand of Dewey, and of Samp son and of Schley, 'Bob" Evans always tips his cap as me he passes by; And though on inland waters, I navigate for gain, My heart is with the sailor lads upon the raging main. CHORUS. Reef the rudder! Spauk the Boom! Heave Hoi my lads; Heave Ho ! Wash the sails with a dusting broom, we're ready let her blow. The Nancy Hanks can stand the storm, her crew cau till the bill, We are the boys that fear no noise; we are from Tunnel Hill. Pine and hemlock, oak and birch, comprise my gallant crafts, They run so nice o'er rift and bar, 'tis a shame to call them rafts; With stately grace they glide along towards the new box mill. No better sailors in the world than those from Tunnel Hill. CHORUS. Cork the port! Furl the helm! And drop the anchor in? Swad the deck and then "By Heck," we'll call the fiddlers in; And skip the light fantastic toe, away with cares and lills. Then give three cheers for Captain Barr who sails from Tunnel Hill. J. P. S.
