away. It will employ a large force of
men, as they expect to ship 20 car loads

Mrs. R. M. Williams has returned
from a three weeks visit to Salamanca,
N. Y., and was taking medical treatment

Irviu and Vern Beckner and his wife
of Laurel, Miss., are making a visit to
friends in this section for a few weeks.
Mrs. Amanda Russell of Ohio arrived
Saturday evening with her daughter and
are visiting John Caldwell's family, her
father.
Potatoes are a fair crop, though some
report finding some rotten one's among
them.
C. E. Logue putin a licensed fish
basket, and while doing it got his arms
badly poisoned by the creek water and
had to employ a doctor. He caught a
large quantity of eels and put them in
boxes in the run until they are good to
eat. Somebody stole one box, eels and
all. A few nights ago another freight
stopped and he took , his revolver and
drove the fellows off before they had
time to secure many. He is talking of
having the parties arrested and notified
them he would shoot the legs off them if
he caught them there again.

at her home Thursday evening.

The school board fixed up all the
school matters at their last meeting, last
Thursday. We now have school at Canoe
Run aud are to have a graded school here
soon as another teacher can be secured.
D.B. Peterson is teacher at Canoe Run.
The people are to be congratulated on
being so fortunate as to secure so compe
tent a teacher.
G. L. Page visited friends at Westport
one day last week.
The L. C. met in the tower Monday
evening, with a large attendance. Presi
dent Comley appointed J. R. Strawbridge
chairman. J. R. Strawbridge was con
gratulated on the best skunk story told
that evening.
All the local nimrods are preparing for
the hunting season which will open short
ly. The prospects for patridges here is
not very encouraging as only a very few
birds have been seen so far this season.
E.McCracken was quite ill the first of
the week but we are glad to see him on
tbe brick engine again.
Cora Yocum visited her sister, Mrs.
F. P. Kepuer, one day lsat week.
Quite a large number of our towns
people attended the Fair at Emporium
last week.

Wilson Bros Lumber Co., have sold
their mill and machinery to another firm,
but at this writing we are anable to say
who the party is.
For some time past Wm. H. Logue
has been missing his chickens and Mon
day afternoon he discovered some strange
animal trying to climb a tree in the yard.
Miss Logue killed the animal with a stick
and no one seems to be able to tell what
kind of an animal it is. It is about the
size of a black squirrel with a long silky
tail and its hind legs are longer than its
front ones. It made a noise like a duck
and it had a shifty expressian in its face.
John Jordan says it looks like a Capitol
grafter in disguise. The animal can be
seen at the store.
The six round bout between A. T.
Smith and J. F. Sullivan has been post
poned on account of a disagreement over
the purse.
(J. J. Miller and William Nelson at
tended the funeral of Postmaster Lewis
at Sterling Run Tuesday.

a position as foreman for Frank Lock
wood on his Elk Fork lumber job.
The trustees ot the cemetery wish to
announce that on next Tuesday, Oct. Ist,
they will meet at the cemetery for the
purpose of cleaning up the lots and set
ting up the tombstones that have fallen
down. All who have relatives and friends
in this cemetery should attend as the lots
and graves are in very bad condition.

J. P. Michais is moving into Mr.

Stewart Chase is moving into his resi
dence on Railroad street.
G. L. Hyde has dismantled the wood
mill and all the machinery is moved
away. The wood mill would be a fine
location for some other industry.
Jas. J. Russell finished up the base
ball season last week. He caught for
the Autos of Lock Haven.
W. L. Drum came back from Laquin
last week.
The B. S.it S. It. 11., have most ot
the machinery for the stone crusher on
the siding at Lushbach.
J. L. Logue's skating rink was well
patronized Saturday evening. Over 300
skaters were on the floor during the
evening.
There is some talk of parties leasing
the wood mill and putting up a merry-go
round for the winter, with steam heat
and cafe attached. Wyside needs some
place of amusement.
Barclay Bros, mill will start up this
week to saw out the few loirs they have
gathered up, after which the saw mill
business will be a thing of the past here,
but things look favorable for other in
dustries. Parties looking for a chance to
locate would do well to come here.
Pap Berfield and Pap Blodget met on
Tuesday and had a long talk about how
they were going to capture one of the
big fellows with horns on when season
opens.
There was quite an excitement created
at the Sinnamahoning house one day last
week when J. Henry Logue came down
and reported seeing an enormous wild
animal, which was watching his fish
basket. He said the animal was about
five feet tall and ten feet long, and when
he got his Winchester trained on it, it
just snapped at the bullets as a toad saps
flies.
