Miss Mayme Cummings, of Port Al
legany, visited her parents over Sun
day.
About one hundred persons from
town took in the Portage excursion
Sunday.
Miss Belle Husted, of East Empori
um, was business caller at the PRESS
office on Monday.
Chas. Hockley, wife and child of
Virginia, are visiting their parents, 1.
K. Hockley and wife.
Misses Olive and Margaret Malloy
and Margaret Murray are visiting
friends at Belfast, N. Y.
Thos. Lyons, who has been down in
Virginia and other southern states for
returned home Saturday.
Ralph Hemphill has been laid up the
past week on account of a piano falling
on his right leg, while at work at the
freight depot.
The Misses Ellen Lyman and Cleo
Fansher, returned to their homes at
Roulette last Saturday, after a visit
with F. F. Day and family.
Mrs. D. C. Groves, who spent sever
al days with ber parents, Wm. Lyons
and wife, left last Friday for Amsby,
Cambria county, Pa., where they have
recently located.
J. C. Lynch of Jersey City, N. J.,
visited in town between trains last
Saturday. Mr. Lynch and family
have been visiting Patrick Clair and
family at Renovo, the past two week?.
Wm. Miller, who has been spending
■some months at Marquette, Mich., re
ceiving treatment for asthma, arriv
ed in Emporium Sunday night, to visit
his family and mother.
We notice Mrs. 1. K. Hockley, who
recently returned from Atlantic City,
stopped at Philadelphia on her return
home and registered at the Windsor
Hotel Many from this section stop at
the Windsor.
Chas. Fisher of th.3 East Ward, took
his little son to Buffalo on Tuesday to
be examined by a specialist. The little
fellow has been laid up for some time
owing to some trouble with one of his
legs.
Mr. E. G. Strait, who has been em
ployed for some time past by the In
ternational Railway Company at Buf
falo, N. Y., came home Wednesday
night of this week sick Mr. Strait's
home is at 312 Chestnut street. His
many friends hope for his speedy re
covery.—Ridgway Advocate.
J. M. Davison spent Sunday at Vilas,
and spent the day visiting with the
Mayze family, with whom he boarded
for many years when they resided in
Emporium. He reports the family
nicely located in their new brick home,
situated handy to the trolley line.
The family are all reasonably well and
contented, although they miss their old
Emporium friends.
Lee Swart z has accepted a posiiiou
with the City Bake ry.
Mr. Fred Julian has returned from a
business trip down south.
Mifcs Vera Geary, ot Buffalo is visit
ing her parents on Portage street.
P. C. Spencer, of Driftwood, trans
acted business in Emporium yesterday.
Miss Agnes Murphy, i 3 visiting rela

place last week.

Woodland avenue.
Miss Flavia Lathrop, of West Alle
gheny Avenue, left yesterday to visit
friends at Addison, N. Y.
Mr. and Mrs. Knight, of Couders
port, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. G.
Gilbert at New Warner.
Miss Carolyn Cox has returned from
a delightful visit with Williamsport
and Watsontown friends.
A. H. Shaffer, of Ridgway, transact
ed business in Emporium on Monday.

Attorney Rentz of Dußois, a member
of the law firm of Rentz & Calkins,
transacted business in town yesterday.
Mrs. B. Egan returned yesterday
from Buffalo. She reports her sister,
Mrs. Lupoid, recovering nicely.
Geo. W. Leavitt and family, of
Beechwood, spent Saturday in town,
guests of Prothonotary Leavitt and
family.
Messrs. M. C. Tulis and Frank Shives
spent a few days last week at Cuba, N.
Y., where Mr. Tulis purchased a fine
horse.
Mr. Shirley Mickey, of Cleveland,
0.,wh0 has been guest of Mr. and Mrs.
R. K. Mickey, Sixth street, has return
ed home.
Robt. H. Lyon, assistant Supt., of
Eastern Dynamite Co., at this place,
was a pleasant PRESS visitor Tuesday
evening.
Miss Jennei Patchell, of Hicks Run,
made a short visit in town the first of
the week, guest of the Misses Charlotte
and Mollie Spence.
Mrs. Jas. J. Creighton, son and
daughter—Jas. Jr., and Miss Ethel—
have returned from a two weeks visit
with Driftwood friends.
Mrs. Susan Sterner and daughter,
Miss Edith, are visiting their son and
brother at Austin, to be absent during
the heated season.
Miss Grace A. Walker left on Mon
day on an extended visit at Shippens
burg, Chambersburg and Lake Winola,
to be absent some time.
Miss Anna Tompowsky, of Syracuse,
N. Y., returned home on Tuesday, ac
companied by her brother-in-law,
Jasper Harris, as far as Niagara Falls.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Zwald,
West Sixth street, Friday, July 19th,
1907, a son. Grand-pa D. W. Keyes
divides time with Grand-ma Keyes in
caring for the young man.
Mrs. Hattie Ness, of Bellevue, Pa.,
arrived in Emporium last Friday, re
maining until Monday, visiting her re
latives here, guest of R. H. Hirsch and
family.
Mrs. A. M. Lane, of Philadelphia
mother of Mrs. Mickey, Miss Grace
Mickey, Cleveland, Missßuth Graham,
of Buffalo, are gueets of Mr. and Mrs.
It. K. Mickey, Sixth street.
Alfred Hirsch, daughter and son, of
New York, who visited in Emporium
for a few days, guest of R. IT. Hirsch
and family, left for Buffalo on Monday,
where they will visit for a few days,
going from there homo.
Thos. McDonougb and wife, of Buf
falo, are visiting relatives and friends
in town. Mr. McDonough has for
years been employed in the Buffalo
post-olllcß and will be pleasantly re
membered by many of our citizens.
Mrs. A. Mclnnes, Sr., of Corry, Pa.,
who has been visiting Thos. Trotter
and wife for several weeks, returned
home on Thursday. This good lady
has certainly been a true friend of the
Trotter family.
Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Walker and son,
of Perry, N. Y., who have been guesta
of W. G. Gilbert and family at New
Warner, returned home on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert accompanied
them as far as Buffalo, then going to
Mt. Clemens, Mich., on a short visit.
Mrs. Rachael Spinny, of St. George,
N. 8., died July 10th, 1907, aged 84
years. Mrs. Spinny was a sister of
Mrs. S. Hilyard and Mrs. W. Bubar of
this place, there being six children in
the family—five sisters and one broth
er—the youngest being 72 years old,
the oldest 86. Mrs. Spinny was the
first one to die.
Thomas W. Hemphill and daughter,
Miss Mary, of Clearfield, Pa., are visit
ing relatives in town, guests of M. B.
Hemphill and wife, Portage street.
Mr. Hemphill was a brother of Ex-
Sheriff Hemphill, deceased. He has
visited here several times arid always
makes friends, just as Harry Hemphill
did when alive".

Thomas and children, Bradford, Pa.,
are guests of Mrs. C. M. Thomas and
family, East Allegany Avenue.
Mr. Geo. Piper and Samuel Park re
turned yesterday from a delightful
visit to Gettysburg battlefield. The
old vets think every person should
make the historic field a visit.
Jos. Burnett, Supt. of Keystone
Powder Co., this place, returned homo
on Tuesday from Missouri, whero he
had been looking after the Company
affairs for two months. He is glad to
get home.
