Henry Ellis killed a large rattlesnake
near Michael Hout's Tuesday, which

P. J. Fishbach, ot Bradford, Pa.,
transacted business in Emporium sev
eral days last week.
Judge Green has been confined to his
residence for several days, a little in
disposed. Nothing serious.
Harry Fritz and wife were called to
Buffalo last Thursday to attend the
funeral of Mrs. Fritz's mother.
Harry S. Lloyd sells Longman &
Martinez L. &M. Paints in pints and
quartz at half gallon price. 13 4t.
W. G. Gilbert and wife, were called
to Perry, N. Y., over Sunday, on ac
count of the illness of Mrs. Gilbert's
mother.
W. H. Simpson, Jr., came down from
Olean yesterday and resumed work on
the sewer contract, commencing on
Vine street.
Miss Flossie Taggart left on Tuesday
for Moss Grove, near Pittsburg, to
visit her sister, Mrs. Byrde Deike, for
a few days.
Mrs. Paul Smith and son, of Punxsu
tawney, Pa., are guests of the former's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Evans,
Sixth street.
Dr. De Long, while driving his auto
from old steel plant to Howard's store,
lost one of the license numbers from
hie machine.
Miss Margaret Cummings, who has
been spending some time at Buffalo
and Niagara Falls returned home on
Monday evening.
Thomas Gallagher went to New
York city on Monday in response to a
telegram announcing the death of his
sister Mary. He will bo absent several
days.
Wm. Apple, who baß been employed
at the City Bakery for about three
years, left on Tuesday for Detroit. Mr.
Apple was a quiet industrious young
man during his residence here.
Andrew Brady drove his auto to St.
Maryß on Tuesday afternoon, bringing
J. D. Logan and others home with him.
They made the run from St. Marys to
Emporium, 21 miles, in 90 minutes.
Amos Raymond, of Gold, Potter
county, died on Monday, aged 86
years. He was father of Mrs. F. D.Leet,
Mrs. L. K. Huntington and Miss Ray
mond of this place. Deceased was well
and favorably known here.
Mrs. Claud Seeley, who has resided
with her husband in the flat recently
vacated by G. S. Allen, was taken to
Williamsport hospital on Tuesday for
treatment.
The many friends of John Day, Sr.,
will be pleased to learn that he is able
to sit up and in fact was downstairs on
Tuesday and smoked a cigar. Re
markable vitality.
Mr. R. A. Kick continues to improve.
G. L. I'age, of Cameron, was 11 Press
visitor yesterday.
Tlios. Gallagher returned from New
York this morning.
Mrs. John Koehler has been serious
ly ill for several days.
Delbert Devling and Miss May Con
nors, were married on Saturday, May
11th.
The Epworth League illumination ia
handsome and attracts many of our
citizens.
Miss Grace Lloyd, who lias been
spending some months in Now York
city, has returned home.

an inspection of all property and lots,
so clean up and remove all rubbish.
Mr. A. Brady and Mr. C. Jay Good
nough left last evening on a business
trip to New York and Philadelphia.
Mr. John Dewald and wife were
visiting W. Lyons and family Wednes
day, Thursday and Friday of this week.
Mr. and Mrs. John H. Day are domi
ciled in their handsome new residence.
They will soon be in apple pie order.
Mrs. Josiali Howard, daughter
Dorothy and mother, Mrs. Bisel, took
in the closing hours of the legislature.
Chas. Segerand A. F. Vogt returned
home this morning from Philadelphia
and New York. They had a big time.
Josephine Deaver and Mabel Greegs,
of Montoursville, were guests of Wil
liam Lyons and wife, Wednesday,

Mrs. Byres Getchell, nee Nellie
Hogan, of Binghamton, N. Y., arrived
in towu on Tuesday to be present at
Commencement.
Thos. H. Norris is attending the |
District convention of Pittsburg Dio. I
eese at Erie, this week, representing
Emmanuel Parish.
Mr and Mrs. Edgar J. Sounders and
son Chas., of Sinnamahoning, visited
in Emporium Saturday and Sunday,
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Auchu.
Mrs. J. F. Sullivan and son John of
Huntley, left yesterday for Canada
upon receipt of a telegram announcing
the death of Mrs. Sullivan's mother.

party is composed of the Judge, W. H.*
Cramer and Jas. J. Creighton. They
arrived home this a. m.
Geo. Metzger has contractor Wright
preparing his residence for removal to
the foundation built on the northern
end of his lots. He will soon com
mence on the new residence.
C. H. Egar, empoyed in Bliss &
Metzger's concrete works, had the mis
fortune to smash a couple of toes, by
getting his left foot mixed up in the
mixing machine.
Mrs. Jos. Kinsley and daughter, of
Siunamahoning, visited in Emporium
yesterday, guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. Auchu. Mrs. Kinsley took time
to call at the PRESS office and renew
their PRESS for another year.
Mrs. J. M. Robertson has been quite
ill during the past week. Her illness
has prevented Rev. Robertson attend
ing Diocesan Convention at Erie this
week.
Ex-County Treasurer Geo. F. Bal
com, who has been confined to his
residence for six weeks, nursing a
sprained ankle, is now able to be at
his place of business a few hours each
day. He has had a hard time of it.
Miss Nellie Turbidy, who has been
attending school here for several terms,
guest of her aunt, Mrs. Michael
Murphy, leaves for her home at Snow
Shoe, Pa., next Saturday. Her broth
er is here to attend Commencement
and will return home with hen
Postmaster Charles Seger and Ex-
County Commissioner A. F. Vogt are
attending the state convention of
Knights of Columbus at Philadelphia,
as representatives of Emporium Coun
cil. This is Mr. Seger's first vacation
in many years, having applied himself
very close to his duties. The rest will
do him good.

switeh rail was broken evidently
by the wrecked train. The piece of
broken rail was produced. This caused
the train to leave the track, he thought.
An examination of the switch showed
that it was not closed.
