Walter Warner, of Austin, visited in town Monday night, gue3t of R. Warner and family. Mrs. Josiah Howard and children re turned on Tuesdny from Florida, where they spent tho winter. Mrs. Ida Decorsey and two children of Buffalo is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. A. Extrom, of Sixth Street. Mrs. John Schlecht spent several days in Ridgway last week visiting her daughter, Mrs. Geo. W. Emmet. Miss Minnie Lion, and aunt visited friends in town last Friday enrout from Coudersport to their homes in St. Marys. Sheriff Harry Hemphill was called to Clearfield last week on account of the illness of a nephew. He returned home on Saturday. Misses Iva and Eva Leet, students at Wilson College, Chambersburg, are spending their spring vacation with their parents, at this place. Mrs. Chas. Zarps has been confined *x> her home for the past two weeks, bv a serious attack of grippe, but at tfiis writing is somewhat better. Mrs. Flora Ryan left Emporium last Friday for Burtville, Potter county, where she will reside for some time. She ordered the PRESS to be sent to her address. Bingham Hemphill is confined to his home with a beautiful black eye, but "Bitig" says he honestly earned it by stopping a base ball, while practicing last Saturday afternoon Philip Knight of Corry, arrived in Emporium last Wednesday evening to visit friends. He is still employed by the Mclnnis Steel Company, which is doing a prosperous business. Misses Iva McUougall and Martha Schlecht, two of Emporium's young ladies, were PRESS callers yesterday, the former to renew her grand mother's Pkkss—Mrs. P. I']. Lewis. Miss Rose Bail- has been confined to her home this week owing to a serious attack of grippe. Miss Lena Bair has charge of her school in the East Ward. Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Branson and Miss Sara McDonald returned to Dußois last Saturday, after visiting parents and friends in Emporium for several weeks. Mrs. A. A. McDonald, who has been in feeble health for several months, has improved sufficiently to join her family at their meals. Mrs. Thomas Pelky, of Seattle, Wash., came up from Williamsport last week to visit her many friends in Emporium. While in town she was the guest ofS. J. Kline and J. H. Fulton, of Butler Pa., visited in Emporium on Monday, acceom panied by V. A. Brooks. Mr. Fulton was called to Sinnamahoning to at tend the funeral of his father, David A. Fulton. Thos. H. Norris and wife went to Buffalo yesterday, the former to look over the markets for new attractions for his store, while Mrs. will take in the sights. Mr. L. K Huntington, and Mr. B. A. Slocum returned from their West ern trip Sunday night. Mr. Slocum expects to retuen about June Ist to look after his lumber interests. C. C. Lowry, of Holland, N. Y., the hustling Traveling Passenger agent for the Nickle Plate visited in Em porium, at the New Warner, Tuesday night and made this office a pleasant call Wednesday morning. Ex-County Treasurer Walter Youth era in was town last evening. Mr. Prod Julian is transacting busi ness in New York City this week. Sheriff Hemphill reports 14 prisoners in jail. Could take a couple more had he the room. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank T. Beers at Bellefonte last Sun day at 7 o'clock Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Auchu have moved into tho pleasant rooms in Frank Ovcrhiser's new block. Miss Ida Hamilton, the up-to-date dress maker on Fourth street., has i moved to the Overhiser Building. Mr. A. C. Mrs. Stella Hamilton, of East Ward, called at PRESS oflice on Tuesday and renewed her subscription for another year. Mis. Mr. Marcus Lucoie, who was recent ly employed in a Keating Summit store is now engaged as clerk in Orion Barnes' store. The Rev. Mr. Reed, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Port Allegany, was the guest of Rev. O S. Metzler on Tuesday Mrs. Paul Smith and son, of Wil liamsport arrived in Emporium Last evening to visit the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Evans and family. Mr. E. L. Mason, C. B Howard Com pany's saw flier, visited his family, who reside on his farm, near Wells ville, N. Y., over Sunday. Mr. Mason says his large ginseng farm is doing nicely. Decorator Harry Fritz and his assist ant have commenced the work of decorating J P. Felt's residence and no doubt will have it completed in time for its occupancy by Mr Felt and family when they return from Florida. William Oswald and wife, of Bolivar, N. Y., visited in Emporium over Sun day, guests at City Hotel. Mr. Oswald is erecting a §30,000 Catholic Church at Bolivar. He met many friends while in Emporium. The PRESS has neglected to mention the fact that Samuel .1. Kline, of this place, has taken charge of the Federal House at Williamsport, for Mrs. T. J. Lysett. Mr. Kline has many friends in Emporium, who would regret to have him leave us, for his removal would take away an excellent family. George Lynch, Sr., of Sterling Run, transacted business in Emporium on Tuesdav and enrolled his name with the PRESS for 1905. Mr. Lynch is a practical saw mill man, having for several years been engaged in cutting the timber on the Sinnamahoning Iron & Coal Company lands. He is now enjoying a little rest Mr. Lynch and his sons are a full team and know how to manage a hemlock job and mill. G. T. Dixon and family leave this j week for Westboro, Wis., to assist C. | B. Howard Company in their lumber- j ingoperations. Friend Dixon called i at the PRESS office on Tuesday and shoved the PRESS ahead another year before leaving. Thomas is a hustler in the woods and having formerly re sided there knows just what is expect ed. His farm on (Hear Creek lie has rented for the time being. Like all Emporium boys they are only going for a time and expect to return. George Guiun and family departed on Monday for eastern parts of the State to visit relatives for a few days, after which they will leave for West boro, Wis., where Mr. Guinn has been transfered by C. B. Howard Company. Mr. Guinn was one of the firm's most reliable men at this place, having charge of their large store which does an immense business. They are es teemed highly by our citizens, having been prominent workers in the Presby terian Church. They will bo missed. Robt. L. Hicks and A. S. Hicks, of Dents Run, visited Emporium on Tuesday and transacted business. Hicks Run will be a lively place for the next ten years, on account of the lum bering operations just commenced by John E. Dußois. A large and modern mill has been erected and work has commenced on sixty dwelling houses. With the wiping out of this timber will close the last large tract of hemlock in Cameron county. Mr. A. S. Hicks in forms us he has opened a general mer chandise store and is ready for the rush. Hope he may may make a for tune.
