Lewis W. White, of Pittsburg, Pa.,
formerly a resident of Emporium, was
visiting in town on Monday and Tues

Miss Rena Hertig came down from
Olean where she is attending commer
cial college, to spend Sunday with her
parents.
Miss Hattie Evans left Sunday for
Punxsutawney to visit her sister, Mrs.
Paul S. Smith. She expects to be ab
sent six weeks.
Mr. Leo Fochtman, who is employ
ed at Emporium, spent Sunday at the
home of his mother, church street.—

J. Harvey Drum, of Grove, and a
good Republican at that, was shaking
hands with old friends in town this

O. B. Tanner, of Gibson, whiie at
tending court as a grand juror, called
to pay his respects to the PRHBS. Of
course he carried away a receipt for
another year.
"Rile" Proeser, of this place, who is
employed by P. R. R., in the telegraph
department at Keating Summit wrtes
the PRIMS, enclosing $1.50. The young
man is energetic and his many friends
wish him success in his chosen pro
fession and look for good reports.
A. C. Blum is on a business trip down
south.
Geo. Metzger, Jr., is confined to his
residence with a severe cold.
Miss Mazie Gallagher's brother ;
Frank has presented her with a valu- !

Mrs. S. J. Ilacket was called of Port- 1
ville, 011 account of the illness of lior :
mother last Saturday.
Michael Murphy was called to Pitts- |
burg on Sunday on'account of the seri- I
otis illness of his mother.
Mr. H. R. Kloss leaves lo night for :
Willinmsport, Pa., where he will visit 1
his sister who is seriously ill.
Mrs. Bennett I. mtzehas beeu severe- j
ly afflicted with erysipelas for several
days, but is improving at this writing

Horace H. Hall, deputy for the State
Grange, is in this county looking up
the prospects for organizing some
Granges in this county.
Geo. Kenworthy, of Cameron Mines
was a PRESS caller this p. m. Geo. is
a hard worker and by industry has
landed on "easy street."
G. Schmidt, wife and son, of Lock
Haven, Pa., and Mrs. Schmidt, of Erie,
(mother) are guests of Chas. G.
Schmidt and wife, at the City Bakery,
L. C. Hinkle, of Wilcox, brother of
the late John J. Hinkle, was visiting
in town on Monday, guest of Mrs.
John J. Hinkle. The PRESS enjoyed a
visit from this genial gentleman, who
is manager of Smith & Co's big store at
Wilcox.
Mr. J. S. Vail, train despateher for
N. Y. C. R. R , at Vilas, Pa., writes
the PRESS enclosing a check for renew
al another year. Mr. Vail formerly
resided in Emporium and his many
friends hero are pleased to know that
he isclimbing up in the railroad world.

Ex-County Treasurer Wm. L.
Thomas, of Shippen, was a very pleas
ant caller at the PRESS sanctum yester
day afternoon. "Billy", as the boys
call him, is sorely grieved over miss
ing his vote, last week, the first time
since attaining his majority. While
visiting his barn he ran a nail into his
right foot, which confined him to his
home for several days.
W. 11. Cramer expects to move into
his recently purchased store, next
Monday.
C. W. Pennington, who plead guilty
to assault was sentenced to six months
in county jail.
John Bennett, an old man, from
Mason Hill, will board wfth Sheriff
Hemphill for twenty days.
A powerful drama entitled "At
Cripple Creek" will be given at the
Emporium Opera House to night.

A new drama of the mountains of
Colorado is entitled "At Cripple Creek"
and will beprezented at the Emporium
Opera House to-night.
Mr. Fred Julian has recently pur
chased another white horse arid now
drivea a full team. Tom McGrain, the
driver, is getting them up in fine shape
and don't propose to be passed on the
road if he knows it.
The Pennsylvania State College.
Messrs. Hoover and Dodson, two
mechanical experts from Hazeiton, are
at present engaged in the Engineering
remodeling and setting up a mineature
coal breaker for the St. Louis Exposi
tion. It is to form part of the State
Mining exhibit being arranged by
Prof. Reber.
State's baseball candidates have been
doing indoor work in tlie Armory for
the past ten days. At Captain Elder's
call for candidates over seventy men
responded

team to to work.
