CAMERON COUNTY PRKSS, THURSDAY, APRIL 25, 1901.
BRIEF HENTION.
The opening of the Pan-American is
postponed until May 20th.
The grouping of Clinton, Elk, Cam
eron, Clarion and Forest counties into
a Senatorial district would bo a dandy
—for a democrat.
The Supreme Court on Monday sus
tained Gov. Stone's action in cutting
off by veto $1,000,000 from the public
school appropriation in 1898.
Marriage license was granted to Har
ry A. Wiley, of Sterling Run, and Miss
Claudia D. Bell, of Dents Run, last
Monday, a week, at liidgway.
Passenger cars are now running on
the Goodyear trains from Sinnamahon
ing to Wharton. This is a great con
venience to the First Fork residents.
Two colored men have been arrested
at Clearfield and it is claimed they are
members of the gang of the light finger
ed gentry who operate in this section
A serious freight wreck occurred at
Tunnell Hill bridge below Sterling Run,
last Friday morning Twenty-two cars
were wrecked and trafiic tied up until
evening. The Buffalo Flyer, east, was
sent around via liidgway and Dußois.
No one injured at the wreck.
If this bill becomes a law and the
work is prosecuted the results will un
doubtedly be of great value to many
interests in Pennsylvania, not only to
those to whom the utilization of water
power is necessary bub also to the cities
and municipalities which draw their
water supply from the streams of the
State.
The Bolivar Breeze very truly ro
marks that one good, every-day, plain
plug of a man, who makes money and
invests it in the town he lives in—who
employs labor, keeps his buildings
paiDted, and who can be relied onto
help along any worthy public enter
prise, is of more value to his town than
a thousand loafers who only exist for
the purpose of criticising the really
useful citizen.
Mr. J. T. Rothrock, Forest Commis
sioner of Pennsylvania, has prepared a
bill for the present Pennsylvania State
Legislature to appropriate $2,000 to the
Hydrographic Division of the United
States Geographical Survey for two
years, beginning June Ist, 1901, for the
purpose of gathering data and determ
ining the volume and commercial value
of the waters carried by the Delaware,
Susquehanna and other important
| streams in the State. Under the pro
| vision of the bill the Geographical Sur
vey is to do the work and pay half the
expenses of the investigation.
The man who gets so narrow and
cranky in his religious views that he
thinks every person is going straight to
hades who don't believe as he does, will
, bo surprised at the number of people he
will find in heaven, if lie gets there
himself. The true christian man or
woman should be the happiest mortal
on this mundane sphere, and they
should enjoy life to its fullest extent,
but some of them who think they are
so good, and almost every other person
so awfully bad, would deny a christian
many of the joys of this life and make
the religious life appear to be an entire
ly, gloomy, self-denying life. Some
I men carry their eccentric views into
j their own homes and force them on
their children until the children are
turned away from the religious path
instead of into it. Parents should try
I to lead their children into paths of
i righteousness, but don't try to drive
J them; 'tis better to win them by living
a sweet christian life daily. Long
I prayers at family worship and denial
of innocent privileges, have a tendency
! to drive from instead of drawing to
wards the christian life.—-Kane Repub
lican.
