NAPOLEON'S EYE.
One Look From It Explained Ilia
Power Over Men.
In 1887, while working In London us
a curute to the Rev. Canon Fleming, I
was called In my vicar's absence to ad
minister a religious service to an old
admiral In Eaton square. The admi
ral's name was Eden. After the serv
ice was over he took my hand and
■aid: "Shake hands with me, young
man. There are not many alive who
can say what I can say. You are talk
ing with a man who has talked to Na
poleon the Great." "Sir," I said, "that
Is history. May I hear more?" The
old admiral then told me that he was
once returning with the fleet—l think
from the West Indies, but of that I am
not sure—and touched at St. Helena.
The admiral said, "I am going up to
Longwood to pay my respects to Napo
leon, and the Benlor midshipman conies
with me."
"I was the senior midshipman," said
the old gentleman, "and so I went. We
waited for Napoleon In nn outer room,
and you must Imagine how eagerly I
expected his entrance. The door was
thrown open at last, and in he came.
He was short and fat and nothing very
attractive but for his eye. My word,
eir, I have never seen anything like It.
After speaking to the admiral he turn
ed to me, and then I understood for the
first time in .my life what was the
meaning of the phrase, 'A born ruler of
men.' I had been taught to hate the
French as I hated the devil, but wheu
Napoleon looked at me there was such
power and majesty in his look that If
he had bade me lie down that he might
walk over me I would have done it at
once, English middy though I was.
The look on Napoleon's face was the
revelation of the man and the explana
tion of his power. lie was born to
command."
Such was Admiral Eden's version to
me of an Incident which at 90 yenrs old
or thereabout seemed to him as fresh
as if it had happened only the day be
fore.—Rev. John Rooker In London
Spectator.
Temperate.
Grimsby—So you want to marry my
daughter, sir! What are your princi
ple? Are you temperate?
Fledgely—Temperate! Why, I am so
strict that it gives me pain even to find
my boots tight.—Pick-Me-Up.
Close Reiemblaapr.
Contractor—You won't sell me a car
load of bricks on credit?
Dealer—No. Me and my brick are
very much alike. We're hard pressed
for cash.—Philadelphia Record.
Doorlnh.
De Vere—Thaf»i Miss Winter. Love
ly girl, but awfully boorish.
Ponsonby—How do you know?
De Vere— I proposed to her the other
day, and she said that, though she lik
ed dogs, she didn't care for puppies.—

TO PREVENT LA GRIPPE,

Timely Advice From the New York "Maga

The New York Magazine of Sanitation
and Hygene says that a more meritorious
medicine than Krause's Cold Cure for
the prevention and cure of La Grippe

l the chemical and medical experts of that
magazine. As soon as you begin to take

Krause's Cold Cure is guaranteed to
break up La Grippe in a day, and to cure
an ordinary cold in one night. It is a
new principle in medicine prepared in
1 soft, soluble gelatiiic capsules, which are
easily dissolved by the warmth and fluid
jof the stomach. They are far superior
to hard, sugar-coated pills or tablets.
I They contain no calomel, and can be tak

Yes, August Flower still has the larg
, est sale of auy medicine in the civilized
world. Your mothers' and grandmothers'
never thought of using anything else for
indigestion or biliousness. Doctors were
scarce, and they seldom heard of appen
dicitis, nervous prostration or heart fail
ure, etc. They used August Flower to
cleans out the system and stop fermenta
tion of undigested food, regulate the ac
tion of the liver, stimulate the nervous
1 and organic action of the system, and that
is all they took when they were feeling
dull and bad with headaches and other
