DEATH'S DOINGS.
FIX) HENCE LEWIS.
Slowly, one by one, our dear ones are
; passing away. This time it was a kind
I daughter and sister. Flora Lewis pass-
I ed away on the morning of the 13th,
inst, after months of patient suffering
with consumption. She was born in
Rich Valley Dec. 6th, 1874, where she
resided at the time of her death. She
leaves a father, mother, one brother
and a daughter, who resides with her
father at Sullivanville, N. Y., beside
many other relatives and friends who
mourn her early death. Her funeral
was largely attended, Tuesday, Jan. 15,
at the Rich Valley church, the Rev.
Metzler, of Emporium, conducting the
services. Text, Zechariah 14 7: "But
it shall be one day which shall be known
to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it
shall come to pass, that at evening
time it shall be light."
The flowers were profuse and elabor
ate. A quartette from Emporium fur
nished the music. Burial was made in
Rich Valley cemetery. She was heard
to say: "I would like to live but if it
is the Lord's will to take me, lam
ready to go." May the Lord bless the
relatives and friends and may their
lives be so given up to Him that there
may be a glad reunion in Heaven when
the toils of life are ended.. A 0.0.

Drive Them Over to the Democrats.
Now let Martin and Flinn go
where they belong—over to the
Democrats.
They have been dealing with the
Democratic leadership. They have
engineered a fusion movement for
the control of the Legislature.
They have acted as assistant Dem
ocrats throughout the State cam
paign. The cabal of boss politicians
formed for seizing upon Pennsylva
nia consists of Martin, Flinn and
Guffey.
Guffey is to be the next Demo
cratic candidate for United States
Senator. Let his close friends,
Martin and Flinn support him.
Let them vote for him and do all
in their power to elect him. They
would be powerless, of course, as
Senator Quay was elected on Tues
day by a good majority.
Sarah Bernhardt said that one night
during a visit to America when she

a slight operation might possibly be re

papers, and a day or two afterward I
received a telegram from the manager
of a museum In Chicago saying that if
it was necessary to amputate my leg
might he please have it. He added he
would drape it 'f desired."

Letter to Jos. Fisher.
Emporium, Pa.
Dear Sir- You buy your horseshoes
and nails; >our grand-father, if he was
a blacksmith, made 'em. You can't
afford to hammer them out by hand,
when you can buy as good, or better
perhaps, readymade to your hand, for
a little more than the coat of the iron.
What do you think of a painter who
goes on buying his linseed oil and
white lead, and tinting and mixing by
hand, and charging his time for work
that is far better done than he can do
it, done by machinery, done as your
horseshoes and nails are made.
Mistake isn't it?
He is wasting his chance in the world.
There is no better stuff to do business
with than good horseshoes and paint;
and no better work than putting them
on. Good horseshoes well put on: It's
the putting 'em on that makes you a
blacksmith: no matter who makes 'em.
Who wants togo back to old times,
and make his own horseshoes ?
Between us two, that painter don't
know how to make gcod paint—be used
to; but paint has run away from him.
Yours truly,
17 F. W. DEVOE & Co.
