hired girl or any other working girl is
far his or their superiors. It is just as
honorable to work in a kitchen as it is

would be a great country if all were
wealthy and no one to hire to do tho
work. A girl who has the snap and
energy to earn a livlihood at honorable
employment, be it in the kitchen or the
store, the office or tho dressing room,
is just as good as any millionaire who
drives a bobtail team or any man who

Pennsy's New liuffato Line.
It was announced officially yesterday I
1 that the Western New York and Penn
sylvania Railroad Company will be
' come part of the Allegheny Valley li'y |
| system as soon as all the details per- j
i taining to the securing of the control of
j the company by the Pennsylvania Rail- \
road Company have been completed, j
The Western New York & Pennsylvania
! has a line from Oil City to Rochester, 1
also a lino from Emporium to Buffalo '<
; anil from Oil City to Buffalo. The !
1 mileage is about 042 miles, of which 45 j
| miles are leased and 597 miles owned. \
Tho Allegheny Valley Railway is con
| trolled by the Pennsylvania, although j
it is operated as a distinct corporation.

| Pittsburg to Oil City are used by tho !
Western New York & Pennsylvania.
While no information in regard to I
j the number of shares of stock and in- j
; come bonds deposited by the security j
j holders of the Western New York & I
; Pennsylvania has been given out, it is j

j been deposited. Each holder that has
| complied with the letter sent by Presi- [
| dent DeCorsey has received a tempor- I
ary receipt, and it is stated thai upon j
the surrender of this receipt on or after j
June 15 the Pennsylvania Railroad j
Company will pay cash for it at the
rate of £9 a share for each stock and S3OO j
a bond.

the Pennsylvania are now making a !
tour of inspection of the Western New |
York & Pennsylvania and Allegheny j
Valley Railroads and it is understood
that a number of changes are to bo made
in regards to reducing the grades and
the elimination of sharp curves.
The physical condition of the new j
acquisition is fairly good and on the
Buffalo division the work of equipping
it with eighty-pound steel rails is now
going on, and 011 the other divisions
seventy-pound rails are now being put
. down. The Pennsylvania Railroad
Company has for several days past been
running a through train from Philadel
j phia to Buffalo by the way of the main
line. Northern Central and Philadelphia
i and Erie Roads to Emporium, the rest
I of the route being over the Western
| New York & Pennsylvania Railroad, j
I It is also stated that an improved ser- j
vice is to be put into effect between j
