Wykofif, of Grove, attended court on Monday and squared up with ye printer for another year. Mr. F. M. Hanna left for Olean on Monday in response to a telegram announcing that his wife was dying. Mr. and Mrs. Stoddard returned on Friday evening from Buffalo and Olean where they were visiting the past two weeks. Vitalis Swanson, of Cherry street, was made supremely happy by the advent of a girl baby at his home last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Urban Boutain were called to Sherbrook, Canada, on Tues day on accout of the serious illness of Mrs. B's mother. Robt. Clark, of West Ward, one of our industrious citizens was a PRESS caller on Monday and added his name to our list for 1900. Miss Clertie Gantz and Miss Clara Seger, two of Emporium's most popu lar young ladies, were agreeable PRESS callers on Tuesday. A. D. Gould, of Eldred, stopped in Emporium on Monday, while enroute east, to visit his sisters and shake hands with old friends. Miss Lizzie Ludlam, one of Empo rium's most estimable young ladies, has returned from an extended visit with Mrs. H. A. Cox, at Philadelphia. Thos. MeCaslin had the misfortune to sprain his right ankle last Saturday evening while coasting on Maple street. Tom saved the ladies from in jury by sticking to the coaster. Mrs. S. C. Hyde, after visiting her daughter, Mrs. T. F. Moore at this place, left Tuesday for Port Allegany on a short visit, after which she goes to Florida to spend the winter. Squire Blodgett came up from Sinna mahoning on Tuesday to transact some business and called to see the PRESS. We regret to learn that he has been suffering with rheumatism. Judge Bonham came up from Frank lin, where he is engaged in business, to assist in holding license court on Monday. He remained with his family until vesterdav, when he returned to Franklin. John Hemphill, one of the furnace employees, is laid up with a severe cold. Miss Susie Wheaton, of East Ward, was a PRESS business caller on Wed nesday. Geo. A. Walker, Sr., has returned from Scranton, where he visited his son J. M. Mrs. M. S. Winfteld lias charge of the Public Library. An excellent selection and deserving lady. Mrs. F. D. Lcet is greatly improved. Hopes are entertained that she may recover without an operation. Joe M. Shafer, Jr., of Sinnemahon ing, lias accepted a position at Mt. Carmel. He left 011 Monday for his new post of duty. Our good townsman Geo. H. Stevens, 011 Wednesday received the sad intelli gence of the death of his father, who resides in Maine. The Misses Virginia and Carrie Miller, of Williamsport, are guests of their sister, Mrs. C. E. Crandall, 011 West Allegheny Avenue. Dr. Smith visited Harrisburg on Tuesday and assisted in counting the vote for State Treasurer, as a member of the legislative committee. Dr. E. J. Russ, of St. Marys, came down last Friday to consult with Dr. Bardwell in regard to Mrs. Bardwell's case. We are pleased to state that the lady is greatly improved. Mr. Mansfield Moore, of Canesraga, N. Y., was a PRESS visitor yesterday. He returned home this morning with the remains of his brother, Isaac Moore. Postmaster Seger will bring action against Mr. M. Y. Norton, the cham pion clam chowder maker, to compel him to provide in the future for the small eaters, like himself 1 Seger) and Fred Hill. County Commissioner A. W. Mason, of Gibson, while attending to his duties in Emporium on Tuesday took time to pay his respects to the PRESS. Mr. M. will commence the lumber job for Brown, Clark & Howe, next spring, upon the land recently purchased from S. S. Hackett. The Sunday school class of Mr. C. G. Minick in the M. E. Church, of this place, had a royal feast at the hos pitable home of their teacher on Tues day evening last. They had won the Christmas prize in the Sunday School contest for a big turkey which had been offered as a reward to the class making the largest contribution for charity, and Mr. Minick got them up a royal feast.
