Tb e dalphin Administration and New McKim The Government Galphin presses, .aye the New Yuri.' Gl o be, are making the recent proclamation of Col. Mon. • r oe, calling on the people of New Mexico to form a State Constitution, a now ground of opposition to tin Compromise. We are told by them that New Mexici will be found, in a few days, knocking' at the doors if Carnes for admission u a free and independent State, go d will have as good a right to adntissiou as California. The Philadelphia orgau,pf the administration. says, ex altiottlY: ...The new event has,in fnet.given an unexpected char- Dew to the bill, and must must diminish its chances among northern merit while it adds incalculably to the strength and the prospects of the President's plan." The effort now being Made to thrust New Mexico into the Union. has moot undoubtedly been instigated by the Cabinet. It is part of that desperate game for debuting the Compromise, which the Galphins are bent on accom• p! j i bing. It , remains to be glean, whether I,A:ingress tolerate this interference of the / Executive with the mosts- , a rea which ,Coneress have under deliberation. It wil be , c heapening much, indeed, the privilege of admission into this Union, when Congress shall admit a St ate without an y previous census of its population, and when the moot sethentid intelligence will not justify us in estima ting its white American inhabitants over 900. Congress has already refused to admit a delegate front Now Mexi co to a seat—doubtless for satisfactory reasons. It is h ar dly probable that the privilege, so soon after that re fusal, will be accordeci her of sending thiee members of Congress. The only disposition which will be made of New Mexico, will he that provided by the Cortipromiss big If that shall fail, New Mexico will probably be,s4 fered to remain, fcir the present, under her present Mill buy government. A Rival to the "Wandering Jew." The Ohio Steto Journal. in availing of the Whig candidate for Governor of 'that State s .anys: " Ho is in the field. and will continuo his labors LW he is Governor If Ohio." From this it appears that the famous " Wandering Jew" is about to have a rival in the Pereon of the Whig candidate for Governor of Ohio, as our Democratic ex changes are positive that his competit r, Judge Wood, will be elected: Well, competition is the life of trade, sad we ere glad to knew that neither Jew nor Gentile, whether fabulous or reel.ean escape from encountering it. Dr. Putnam. the spiritual adviser of the condemned, with a petition from him for a commutation of punishment, together with a confession that he killed Dr. Parkman. The Rev. gentleman prefaced this statement with a few remarks relative to the manner in which the eonfesaio was made to him. He stated that he had no privious acquaintance with Professor Webster before being called on to act in the capacity of his spiritual adviser. In the few weeks of his visits ho suught no acknowledgement from the pris oner. At length on the 23d of May he visited hill' in his cell, and demanded of him for his own wellbeing that lie should tell the truth in relation to fi et matter, and he acceded to the request by making a statomen tt t which was now submitted to the consideration of the Council. It was in substance as follows: On Tuesday, Nov. 20. Prof/icor Webster sent a note to Dr. Parkman. It was .-headed by little Geld and wes unsealed. It was to ask Dr. Perkman to call on me (Pl . of. After wards he drew tho'note'r and an old letter from his pock. et. and referring to the letter said, "in this letter I rec ommended :t ou for your present situation, and now I will have you turned out." , , —At this point the transmission of the despatch from Boston was interrupted by the MOM, by which both the eastern, and southern lines of telegraph were so in jured that no further news has been received. 3.
