taken entirely when he says his "bachelor elate is
scarce of peculiar annoyance to the editor of the Obser
rer." So far from its "annoying" us, it hai been a iatxrce
of infinite mirth to coma as well as almost every one
who has read his lack-a-dasical "love-cracked"efrusions
on flowers, bouquets, country rides, birds", moonshine,
and—butter-milk.
THAT War.—That vest from Justice's cheap clothing
establishment, came duly to hand on Election evening,
so that if we did get our jacket pretty well tanned ha the

Journal. at Meadville. resumed specie payment. We
are glad of it, but lent it rather strange that we should
learn the fact first from the papers in a neighboring vil
lage?
The steamship Falcon arrived at this port from Cha
gos in 5 days and 18 hours, bringing $70:000 in gold,
and a large mail, and 49 passengers for New York.
The steamship California was to havo sailed from
Panama for San Francisco on the 27th uh. The Sena
tor on the let, the Unicorn on the Bth, and the Panama
on the 13th.
The health of the Isthmus was good, .and the roads
were easy, having been greatly improved. The date a
from San Francisco are to the Ist of Sgptember.
F. F. Smith had gone on an expedition to the moun
tains of Sierra Nevada. Col. Fremont was at Monterey.

The Milner from Now York, arrived at San Francis
co in MD days. The Vice Consul at the Sandwich Is
lands died at San Yrncisco - on , tho 2Gth of August.
Lieut. Beale, bearer of despatches fron. New York, ar
rived from San Friincisre and proceeded to Gen. Smith's
headquarters.
Thomas Butler King was lying dangerously ill of bili

at Monterey on the 31st of August. It was said to have
been composed of men oflintelligence and integrity.
" Commodore Jonel continues in command of the Pacif
