the NOrtherner, being d i reouraged n ith the hardships
encountered, and bs fear of not being able to get pas

Among them Mr. Downs from Worcester gives the

estimates ZOO is waiting there. He reports much sick
ae•e in Panama as well as on the way across the Isthmus.

While at the minas ho heard of immensely large Itimrs
being found, but the largest ono ho ever saw himself
neighed but 19 ounces. Ho also 1 urnishes the follow
mF of a piracy in the Pacific:
Tito schooner Rosa Sequida, Capt. Contreras, of about
IJII tons harthen, left Valparaiso on the 15th of-Nevem
iper last, with a large cargo valued at 40,000,:and several
passengers for Son Francisco. The, vessel arrived at
Gallipages Island on the 18th of December. On the
:24, the Captain and passengers, 19 in number, were
en shore for fresh water. The mate, an Englishman
named Barton, the cook, a black man and a sailor, made
63i1 and proceeded to sea, leaving the Captain and pas
senger, on ' , horn without provisions, clothing or any
thing else. In addition to the mate, cook and sajlor,
there were on hood - the schooner, the second mate, who
sas confined to his berth by sickness, the Captain's
nephew, a lad of 18 years, and a servant girl belonging
w one of the passengers.

On or about the 25t11 of December, the whale ship

bourhood and Pituallon is suitable no well ns necessary for the
accommodation of the public and the entertainment of strangers
