(Andrew Potter, a printer, son of Mr.
William Potter, of ,Pawtucket, has been ap
pointed deputy shcriffof Oahu, and perfect of
police for the town of "Honolulu, Sandwich
Islands.
(151,ieut. Andrew Porter, of the U. S.
Army, has been promoted to the rank of Cap
tain. Mr. Porter it will be remember, was
an Engineer upon the Erie Extension, in years
gone by.
12r It is understood that Lieut.
O'Sulli
van has deserted from the American Army,
and been appointed a Colonel in the Mexican
. service. He fought bravely at Palo Alto,
Resaca, Cerro Gordo and the subsequent bat
tles in the valley for which ho was promoted.
But it is said that he committed soine - other
act, which disgraced him in the eyes of the
,Army. He should be shot.

ington, state that the President has ordered a
court of inquiry fur the purjose of invesTiia
tine the charges made against Gen. Pillow
anti cor. Duncan, which have been preferred
by Gen. Scott. After that investigation has
terminated, the court is further directed to ir
•quire into the charges preferred against Gen.
Scott by Gen. Worth. The charges against
Gen. ‘VorthoubmiAtted by the commanding
General, have been dismissed by the President.
The court is directed to assemble at Perote,
et as early a day as the members can convene.
It is to consist of Gen. Towson, Paymastet
General, as. President, Gcn. Cting, and
Gen. Butler, of La.

the President has recalled Gen. Scott, and
ordered Gen. Pillow and Col. Duncan to
Washington fur trial. Gen. Worth, it is also
rumored, has been promoted, and will remain
in command of the Army. Doubtful.
