tion of tort, Mr. J. U. Spencer, of N.
V., made some able remark , illthdrating the
inciples contained in the report.
Mr. Gardner, of Troy. oddressod the meet

On motion of Mr. Blackwell, it was resolv
ed that a committee of three be appointed to
superintend the publication and distribution,
in pamphlet form, of the proceedings of the
conventionJ Ju dge Thomag, of 111., sai 1 that
the citiiin4 of Chicago claimed the priviletigo
of payitt the expenses of publishing the pro
ceedings, which was acceded to.
Mr. Stetteer offered a resolution directing
the publication of the proceedings of the con
tention. The motion was adopted, after
much discussion, thus taking the place of all
oilers in this relation.
Mr. Hall, of New York,.• offered a resolu
lion recommending Mr. Willtie's plan of a
Pacific rail road,, which was laid upon the ta
ble, as wa - aalso a motion of Mr. St. Jojin,,of
i
Buffalo, to econsider the last resolutibn re
ported froid the commity of two, for each
state. _
Mr. BroWn, of Itlinoi;s, offered a preamble
and resollitiini in relation to the free naviga
tion of the ,St. Lawrence, in connectiou with
Ulf' trade of the west, and directing the execu
ll\ e conwi ttee to collect facts in regard to thetr

Judge Watkins, of Missouri, moved Irreso
lution of thanks to the citizens Of Chicago,,
for their hOscuality and which' was unani
mously adopted.

On :notion of colon Robinson, of Indiana;
it was resolved, that the original papers of the
proceedings of this convention -be collected
and placed in the hands of the mayor cdChi
cago, for the, purpose of being preserved in
the archives of the city.
The President responded to the vote of
thanks id one of the inost elequent speeches
we ever listened to, when the Convention ad
journed sine die. °

On. examination of -the entrance into the
Harbor at Presque Isle, Lake Huron, Ifound
a middle ground, on each bide of which -,I
pidced a Buoy; that on the westward side is
in 8 feet water, that on the eastward side in" 10
feet water. The Buoys will shoed the width
of the shoal. The channel on the eastward
is much the best for depth of water and space
for beating. On the end of the spit 'running
out from the main land, near the wharf, is a
Buoy in JO feet water. I examined the en
trance earefull3) .and found itenther shoals:
I also kept the l ad going in tr<ting, out, and
found good watC--r but a short distance from
the shore,-near tle light house. The middle
ground lies lend hwise to the south and west
ward; the water shoals gradually on each
shore; litil on come in the vicinity of the
middle Around you will find from a quarter
less three to half four. The Buoys are paint

font* used this agent in diseases of the kidneys;
and through them .its virtues be'came known
to European Physicians. The Dutch phy
sicians gale it xvith great success in indiges
tion. It is also said to have affored essential
service in Chronic Rheumatism. In the form
of Merchant's coMpound extract of this agent,
it,has been extolled for the relief of catculous
'trains, bloody urine, and in irritated and su
perati ye' conditions of the. bladder and urethra.
Moreover Reece found this agent efficacious
in incontinence of urine catarrh of the bladder,
spasmodic stricture of the urethra, gonorrhea,
swellings of the prostrate gland, and impo
tcnCe.
