NORMAL FACULTY EXAMINA
TION'S The examinations of the several
classes at the Normal School by
the faculty, were held last week.
That good work has been done dur
ing the past year by both the fac
ulty and students is evidenced by
the fact that Dr. Waller made the
announcement in chapel last Satur
day morning that every student in
the regular normal course had
passed the examinations, ard would
bs allowed to go before the State
examiners next week.
The state examinations will be
gin next Monday morning at 8
o'clock. The board is composed of

MISS LETSON WILL RETURN.
Miss Blanche Letson, former in
structor in vocal music at the Nor
xnal school, and who during the past
year has had a leave of absence to
continue ber studies in New York
City, will resume her position as
teacher of vocal music next year.
She possess a voice of rare ex
cellence, and ber many friends will
be glad to tee her here again.
HIGH SCHOOL COMMENCEMENT.
The largest class ever graduated
at the High School received their
diplomas last Thursday night at the
Columbia Theatre, where the com
mencement exercises were held.

GONE TO HARTFORD.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. E. Elwell
and Miss Sara Milleisin have gone
to Hartford, Conn., where they
will attend the commencement fes
tivities at Trinity College during
the coming week.
Edward Elwell is in the gradu
ating class, in the classical course.
The exercises begin on Friday
night with the Senior Assembly, of
which he is chairman of the com
mittee of arrangements. On Sat
urday night comes the Senior
Dramatics, an original musical ex
travaganza, in which betakes part,
and for which he wrote a number
of the lyrics.
0:i Monday is Class-Day, when
he will fill the post of class poet,
an honor which was unanimously
accorded him. Wednesday is com
mencement, and then his college
days are over.
MEN S BIBLE UNION.
A meeting of the Men's Bible
Unicn. to which the public was
invited, was held in Columbia
Theatre last Sundav afternoon
The house was packed. Hon. Fred
Ikeler delivered an eloquent address
on "the World s need of Christian
Men", and the balance of the pro
gram consisted ot spirited congre
gational singing led by Prof. O.
H. Yetter, a solo, by Miss Smith,
of the Normal School, a quartette,
"Seek Ye the Lord." Messrs. Fritz,
Ent. Vanderslice and Yetter, and a
tenor solo, by Herman I-ritz.
BAND FESTIVAL.
Nearly thirty-eight years ago the
Bloomsburg Band was organized.
It has kept tp the organization
during all these years, ana has tur
nished music on many pnb'.ic oc
casions without charge. The in
terest and energy of the President,
T. L. Gunton, has done mnch to
wards keeping up the organization.
On Friday and Saturday of this
week the Band will hold a festival
at the Town Hall. Refreshments
of all kinds will be served. They
are worthy of a very liberal pat
ronage. Go and see them.
NURSES WILL GRADUATE.
The commencement exercis;s of
the Nurses' graduating Class of the
Joseph Ratti Hospital will be held
in the Normal Auditorium on Fri
day evening. The members of the
class are Mary Celestine Meekins,
Anna Genevieve Doyle, and Anna
Pauline Kelly.

THE COURT'S DOINGS, j
At a special session of court on
Monday the following business was
transacted:
Iu the estate of Sarah L. Mor
gan, late of Montour township, de
ceased, upon petition presented by
C. J. Fisher, Esq., the Court ap
pnted I. B. Giger guardian of
the six minor children. Bond in
the sum of $125 to be given for
each ward.
A. L. Fritz, Esq., presented the
report of John G. Freeze, Esq.,
master, recommending a charter
for the Ebenezer Cemetery Com
pany of Center township. The
charter was granted by the Court.
Upon petition presented by W.
C. Johnston, Esq., George Rider
was appointed guardian of the four
minor children of Nelson Munson,
deceased. Bond to be given in the
sum of $250 for each ward. The
guardian was allowed, upon peti
tion presented, to expend one dol
lar per week of the estate ot each
ward toward their support.
The report of C. E. Geyer, aud
itor in the estate of Buckalewj
Bros., was upon motion of Fred
Ikeler, Esq., confirmed nisi as of
June 9, 1909.
Mr. Ikeler h;so presented a pe
tition for an amendment to the bill
in equity in the case of Thomas
Brittain vs. Columbia Brewing
Company which was allowed.
Upon motion of Fred Ikeler,
Esq., the return to the order of
sale in the estate of Matbias Frantz
was confirmed nisi.
Iu the matter of the Locust
Mountain Water Company vs.
Roaring Creek Water Company
and in the condemnation preceed-
ings of the Roaring Creek Water
Company vs. Locust Mountain
Water Company, upon motion of
Mr. Ikeler the rules in the cases
were continued until the first Mon
day iu October.
John G. Harman., Esq., pre
sented a petition for the discharge
of Michael Tersavage who had
been convicted of carrying con
cealed weapons and had been sen
tenced to serve six months in the
county jail which he had done.
He was discharged under the in
solvent laws.
N. U. Funk, Esq.. presented a
petition for an amendment to the
charter of the Bloomsburg Literary
Institute. It appearing that the
Act of Assembly bad been com
plied with the amendments were
permitted by the Court.
In the estate of James M. See-
sholtz, late of Berwick, deceased,
the order of sale granted was re
voked, and instead the administra
tor. F; A. Witman, was given per
mission to place a mortgage on the
real estate of the decedent. I ne
mortgage to be for $3s5-7' to s- L.
Seesholtz and payable at the death
of the widow.
Mr. Jackson also presented the
petition of Ida M. Brown for a sub
poena in divorce on the grounds of
desertion which was granted.
In the matter of the divorce pro
ceedings of Laura E. Havland vs.
Edward D. Havland, W. E. Elraes.
Esq., presented the report of the
master recommending a decree.
In the estate of Mary M. Parr,
late of Berwick, dee'd J. L. Evans,
Esq.. presented a petition for spe
cific performance of contract which
was eranted. During ner me ume
the decedent owned a house and lot
of ground in Mifflinville which she
contracted to sell to William H.

FLAG DAY.
Flag Day was not generally cb-
served here on Monday, only a few
of the national emblem being visi
ble. Fort McCIure Ciapter of the D.
A. R. observed the day by holding
a meeting at wnicli there were
appropriate exercises. The meet
iug was he'd on the porch of Miss
VanTassel. The first number on
the program which was short and
of an informal nature was the
reading by Mrs. Helena Ikeler, of
an excellent article on Flag Day,
written by a member of the Read
ing Chapter of the D. A. R. This
was followed by an account of the
furnishing of Continental Hall at
Washington, given by Mrs. M. E
Ent, who recently represented the
local chapter at a convention ct
that place. Both the reading and
the talk were very interesting and
were followed by many questions
relative to Flag Day. Light re
freshments were served by the
hostess and the remainder of the
afternoon spent in a social manner.
ATTENDED COMMENCES ENT.
Mr. and Mrs. William Christum
and daughter, Miss He'en. have
gone to Philadelphia to attend the
commencement exercises of the
Law School of the Univers ty of
Pennsylvania, tbtir sou and broth
er Neil being a member of the
graduating cks. Neil is a pop
ular and bright young man, and
will no doubt succeed in his chosen
profession.
Parr for 450, but died before the
deed was executed.
In the e.-tate of Amelia Apple,
late of Locust township, upon pe
tition presented by C. E. Kriesher,
Esq , the administrator, Albert
Beaver, was permitted to resign
and the sureties were discharged.
The hotel license of Charles E.
Carl of Cleveland township, was
transferred to Michael Gregorwicz,
after hearing the testimony of Gre
gorwicz, J. R. Biboy and Frank
Karvir.sky. Mr. Kreischer repre
sented the application.
The hotel license of M. T. Kalac,
Frea avenue, West Berwick, was
transferred to John Povalosky, af
ter hearing the evidence cf Pova
losky, Samuel Linn and Parvin T.
Groh. Judge Evans gave Povalosky
a rigid cross exam nation as to
whom he borrowed the money from
inquiring particularly whether any
cf it had come from the Columbia
Brewing Company.
James L. Evaus, Esq., represent
ed the transfer.
Upon petition presented by W.
H. Rhawn, Esq., the writ of exe
cution in the case of Charles E.
Rauce et. al. vs. H. R. BalJy,
debt $335. 53. was stayed for 30
days. In tae meantime the levy
of the Sheriff to remain in force.
In the matter of Harry Harmau
vs. J. W. Dodson and same vs.
Lawscn McHenry, on motion of C.
A. Small, Esq., tbe rules in these
cases are discharged upon tbe pay
ment by the defendants the sun of
$33 7 in 3 days in each case.
