UKAUTY EXERCISES.
Pace Skinning Restores Complexion
and Removes Wrinkles An Ad
vantage Over Face Steaming.
According to physical culture orac
les, one can be beautiful if one wants
to bo. One enn excrclso and become
straight and pretty.
There Is the massngo treatment,
which any woman can purform upon
her wrinkles. With her finger tips
sho can smooth them away. She can
go at them with cold cream and rub
them out of her, forehead. She can
tr.cceod In driving them away from
her brow entirely and U10 samo way
with the crow's feet around her pyei.
As for the nose, it can also be mas
saged. Hut no great deal can be
done for the nose of a grown person.
This has been shaped In childhood
and must remain as It Is. It e.-m be
be Improved a little by massage and
manipulation, but not materially
changed.
Face skinning can be managed with
out the martyrdom of peeling the
face. With a little treatment the old
Flt'.n can bo taken oft and a new skin
put on. There are several ways of
doing this and the lu st way Is to
try all ways at once, so that they may
work together and accomplish the do
Bired result.
A woman whose Bkln was not good
formed the habit of going over It ev
ery night wltli a camollzed face wash.
She poured out a basin of water and
Into this she dropped a very few drops
of carbolic. She used fully a gallon
of water while the drops of carbolic
numbered only eight or ten. Tho
druggist Is the best authority on this
matter. This acts as an antiseptic
to the faco.
Face steaming will renew the skin,
but it makes it very tender ana one
can scarcely go out the same day.
Hut if one wants to try It the best
way Is to take hot cloths and apply
them to the skin. They should not bo
hot enough to burn but only to niako
the skin hot through and through.
When the face Is thoroughly steam
ed It Is covered with a lather of soap
Jelly, which Is washed off with soft
water and borax. And, then, a llttlo
good face cream Is rubbed In. This
can be clone once a week with tho
very best results.
The face can te made better as to
Its texture by going over it with the
finger tips wet In a benzolnated bath.
Take a quart of water and drop In
enough benzoin to make It milky.
Dash It on the face. Then massago It
with tho finger tips. The result will
be a hardening of the muscles and a
contraction of the open pores of the
shin.
The treatment of the ears Is a thing
that should be done In childhood. But
If one has neglected It, a great deal
can be accomplished by pinning them
back, as It Is called, and by keeping
them pinned back. There can be
made a little nightcap, all of band
ages which are applied to the ears
bo as to hold them In place. There
are straps that hold back tho lobes
of the ears, keeping them flat against
the head. In time. tho ears will bo
less protruding.
As for the figure ,lt is so easy to
rr.'ki! it good and it is such a simple
matter to straighten the shoulders
mako the hips slender and make the
chest full, that one cannot help won
dering why there are any poor figures
in the world.
Pansy a Favorite Color.
Pansy color will be popular this
spring. It is a color that Is neither a
purpio. nor a lavender, but which sug
t',tbtii tho full brown pansy in its soft
ti;t, richest tones. One can get a
treat deal of wear out of a pansy
clo'th gown, as It can bo trimmed with
cne of many colors and frequently
changed. Green, white, black, corn
color and violet all go well with pansy
color.
There Is a perfect fad for trimming
a gown In such a way that the trim
ming can be taken off and other trim
mings put on. A pansy colored gown
can tie trimmed with new green'. This
makes a very dressy suit with its gor
geous green vest, while tho hat has
Its shaded green plume. Later In the
soason the green can bo removed
and white satin can be applied In Its
place. Now there comes the white
mull, or the white lawn shirt waist,
or tho shirt waist of white nainsook!
or of any delicato washablo material.
Health and Beauty.
The girls with tho sallow complex
Ion will do well to eat oranges. Not
one orange alone at breakfast timo,
hut four or five each day. This works
wonders.
When overheated, the hands and
faco should be bathed In hot water,
containing a few drops of ammonia.
Thin will be found refreshing and
beneficial to the skin.
A vapor bath which is very satis
factory may be had at homo without
any expensive appliances. Fill a tub
with hot water, placo a chair In It, and
when the patient is seated, wrap him
around with a blanket, taking care to
cover the bath also.
Never, never should a woman wash
her hauds without drying them per
fectly. Half-wiped hands are sure to
become rough and coarse. Red hands
are generally due to one of two
causes, oithor too tight clothing or
impeded circulation, due to misused
nerve force. In either case, remove
the cause and tho' hands will regain
their natural healthy color.
A cup of cocoa will be greatly Im
proved If Just before you take it from
the stove you beat tho cocoa well
with an egg boator and add a few
drops of vauila.

Higher Prices in Market.
Fruit growers who are making a
specialty of producing a very high
grade of apples are making a prac
tice of packing their choicest fruit
and packing in neat boxes. Sizes are
variable, depending upon the nature
of the fruit and the preference of the
grower. A favorite size seems to bo
10x11x20, though these dimensions
are by no means exclusive of all
others.
Apples are either barreled or
or boxed. Formerly everything was
barreled, but dealers soon found
that they could display the apples to
a much better advantage and get
better prices If they were carefully

sorted and packed In even layers In
boxes. The rt'sult has been that lead
ing apple growers are boxing their
choicest specimens and either bar
reling or nulling their seconds in
bulk.
As in the enso of barreling apples,
considerable care must be taken to
see that the fruit Is well packed, so
that when tho cover Is fastened there
will ho no shucking. In fact, with
tho box even greater care Is re
quired, since there are only compara
tively few layers placed and there Is
less opportunity for the package to
give and accommodate the strain.
The First Balloon.
In 1767, following immediately af
ter the dlscoveiy of hydrogen. Dr.
Black of Edinburg pointed out that
