Bloonnburg Man, Wouuded at South Moun
tain, Can't Lose Trophy.
With a Confederate oullet in his
neaci tuat has been there 44 years
and six months, Abraham Straus
ser, of No. 2S West Third street,
hale and hearty, celebrated the
seventy fifth anniversary cf bis
birth on Sunday. At 30 years of
age, on November 5, 1861, he en
listed in the Union army, and at
the battle ot South Mountain, on
September 14, 1862, Mr. Strausser
was struck squarely between the
eyes wun a mime Dan, and was
left lying on the field for dead. He
was unconscious for two days
then, when hj did finally come to
his senses, he was discovered by
his comrades and carried to a hospi
tal.
At the hospital he hovered be
tween life and death for nine weeks
but finally recovered and was dis
charged from the service. Since
that time Mr. Strausser has spent
all his lite in Columbia County.
On several occasions he has had
X-ray photographs taken of his
head, and the ball was plainly
located between the roof of the
mouth and the frontal bone of the
skull. The photographs were made
by eminent experts, and they at
said it was a wonder that he was
not instantly killed.

A GREAT OFFER
For You Only
Read this announcement. It is your opportunity.
If you don't read it you will miss your chance. The
greatest magazines in this country have combined to be
offered together at a greatly reduced rate. Never before
was such an offer given to the public, and it is safe to
say never will be made again. This year several maga
zines have increased their subscription price, which
shows how much greater this offer really is. The only
reason we are making it to the people of this vicinity is
because the magazine finds they have not as many sub
scribers as they desire in this particular locality. But
only a limited number will be sold at this price, there
fore we advise every one to accept this offer without
delay. When we have received a certain number we
shall withdraw the offer.
