Tlie January meetinRof the Town Council was held on Monday night at which time the following propo sition from the Hloomsburg Water Co. was submitted: Hon. C. C. Dear Sir: In reply to the re quest of your committee as present ed Tuesday Dec. it, 1906, tlie Bloonishurg Water Company wish es to state, that withstanding the , fact that The Water Co. now sup plies the town water at a loss, "nev ertheless, in order to meet the doubtless honest views of the Coun cil, they will make the following proposition, namely: On and after January ist, 1907, the Bloonishurg Water Company will agree to a new five years con tract with the Bloomsburg Town Council, in which charges eti the seventy-two fare plugs, now in use by the Town, shall be at the rate of fifteen dollars each per year; That all plugs added during that term be charged a rate of ten doll ars each per year; That the water u-sed in the Town Hall shall be furnished free ot charge; That all other - arrangements, privileges and restrictions as set foith iu preseut contract shall be embodied in new contract. The opinion ot the members was that the rate is btill Too high, considering the fran chise the Water Co. got la occupy ing the streets without any compen sation t" the town. On motion the matter was referred back to the committee with instructions to se cure a lower rate it possible. The towu solicitor was directed to collect assessments for damages in opeuing of Ridge Alley, after which- an order will be drawn to pay Mrs. Hutton her damages. The Main street paving was dis cussed. It was decided that no more money will be paid on it un t'l it is completed according to con tract. A special meeting will con sider the question of paying for curbing stone and cement. It was reported to council that the old trolley station 01 Market Square will be removed in a few days. The secretary was directed to notify Fowler and Mellick and their surety, that the town has been eutd for damages by Webb Wright and that they should delend the suit. The solicitor was instructed to present a petition to court for the opening of IJast Fourth street. The application of W. R. Kocher for a sewer on Seventh street was passed, President Yet'er stating that under the law no more sewers could be laid and that it would be unwise to attempt to lay sewers iu midwinter. C. W. Mijler Ksq. asked for an ordinance opening a street where the new brewery is to be erected. Mr. i rowler said the street was wanted because the law requires a street between a brewery and a bottling works, the latter being a necessary adjunct. The brewing company would give the laud, aid take care of the meet so that the town would be at no expense. The matter was referred to the solicitor when Mr Fowler puts his proposition in writ iug, for au opinion. Pursel in Overseers of the Poor District of Jordon Township, in which the order of removal is squashed and the costs placed upon the Fine township poor district. The Court granted the petition for the sale of real estate iu estate of Kl'zabeth Mull, dee'd. The Court granted 1 a supoena iu the libel in divorce cflsaac Mordan vs. Mary U. Mordai. In the action of M. II. Smithgall and Geo. B. Hummer vs. Millie V. Hill, petition for rule to show cause why judgment should not be satis fied of record, the Court granted the petition. In estate of C. B. Mcllenry the Court granted the petition of Rohr Mcllenry, heir, and the widow, to join in deed to sell real estate. The petition of Angeline Shu man for rule to snow cause why she shall not be decreed a ferae sole trader was made returnable Monday, Feb. 4, 1907. Argument was had in the ex ceptions to report of viewers in the road in Catawissa Twp., near hotel of J. R. Bibby, C. K. Kreischer, ap pearing for exceptants and C. J. Fisher Ksq., for the petitioners. Exceptions were filed to the re port of viewers in tle matter of the private road in Madison, town ship near Clark Christian's. Argument was nac on tne mo tion for judgment non obstante veredicto in the case of Mary A. Tucker vs. American Car and Foundry Company in which the jury rendered a verdict of about $6,000. Fred T. Ikeler, Esq. made the argument for the defendant and Judge Bowers for the plaintiff. The Democratic committeemen of the districts iucluded in Bloom Poor District met at the Court House on Saturday afternoon to nominate candidates for Poor Di rector. After an illness of two weeks with pneumonia, George C. La Tourrette passed away at his home, corner of Fifth and Center streets, on Wednesday evening at six o'clock. He was the head miller at the White Milling Co's. plant, and was a ' prominent musician, being the leader of La Tourrette' s orchestra. He was born in Montour Falls, N. Y. and was nearly 50 years old. He has resided in Bloomsburg for six years, and has made many warm friends here. He is survived by his wife, his parents, and several brothers and sisters. The remains will be taken to Montour Falls to morrow on the Lackawanna 12.21 train. A short service will be held at the house at 11 o'clock, Rev. J. W. Diggles officiating. COMMISSIONERS;CLERK BLACK. A B. Black has been reelected chief 4clerk iu the couuty com missioners office for the ensuing vear. This exhibition of confidence is well merited Mr. Black went into the office a year ago, wholly inexperienced, as most of those who have filled the position in the past have been. By close attention and industry he has familiarized him self with matters pertaining to the office, and has made a very hatis factory and obliging chief clerk. His accounts for the year wers all promptly made up, and ready for the auditors. He is always to be found at his post, ready and willing to wait upon all who have business in the 'com missioners' office.
