(Jolliories Stockaded- An exchange says : A ride over the Wyoming Valley at the present time would conviuce you that the next big coal strike will develop conditions bordering on civil war. All the collieries are surrounded bv stockades of heavy planks, about a dozen feet high. In almost every instance these stockades are so built as to include high ground, lrom which observations can be made of the surrounding country Iu fact the stockades look like the enclosures we see in old prints, where our forefathers defended themselves against the Indians, aud it is plain even to the person not a soldier that the collieries have been put in good condition for defense. Non union men can be taken inside the stockade, live there in barracks. and operate the mines, regardless of an army of strikers outside. The new trespass law affords the conl companies ample protection, and any assault on the stockades will lead to a battle. If another general strike is declared next April, we look for trouble in the Wyoming Valley. , 1 Berwick aud Nantiooke Trolley A charter has been granted to the Berwick and Nanticoke Street Railway Co. In the first place it is necessary to get a permit from the government to bring a motor cur into the country. Then, before the motorisi can pass through each district, he must obtain a written permit from the Mayor and Council of that district, and guarantee to make good any damage to roads, or other accidents caused by runaways at sight of the motor car. But that is not all. In the more northerly districts it is compulsory for an automobilist to advertise in the newspapers for one week in advance, at what hour he intends to pass along any thorough fare in the district and the motor ist is only allowed a margin of two hours to do so, or else he will have to wait and advertise all over again.
