Worthy Master George B. Ilorton of Fruit Rlde reported good progress during the yenr. EigUy granges hnve been added to the list, and the total membership is well ulong toward 50.000. lie reported that dur ing the yenr $200,000 in sales had been made under grange contracts covering woven wire fencing, binder twine, fer tilizer, etc. lie stated that the saving will be $20,000 to the purchasers. The report of the secretary of the Pn trous' Mutual Fire Insurance company allowed that it is carrying $1,200,301 In risks lu 2,0."d policies. The place of the next meeting of the state grange Is Grand Rapids. Indiana State Grange. The thiry-fourth annual session of the Indiana state grange was held at Marion, Ind., Hon. Aaron Jones, worthy master, presiding. He reported twenty one new granges organized during the p9t year and six reorganized. He commended the fraternal spirit mani fested among tlie members of the Order throughout the state, was pleased to note the development of better methods In the management of farms and said that the Order should be extended Into every township In the state. He fa Torn the field meetings In the summer time as a means to this end. The re port of the committee on co-operation showed that the membership has been benefited by co-operation In buying binder twine and fertilizer. The amount expended for the latter was $), 889, and the committee estimated a saving of $5 per ton on the purchuso of fertilizer through their contracts, making the saving $2,280 on this trade lone. Co-operation In Ken Jersey, Burlington county, N. J., has the banner In the amount of business con ducted, between $30,000 and $40,000 worth of business being transacted, with a saving of $10,000 to the Tatrons. Cumberland county has built three new halls the past year, at a cost of $0,G00. The secretary of the Orange Mutual Insurance company reports policies ag gregating $8,000,000, with only $14, 000 lu losses, the past year and $15,000 now In the treasury. Thirteen new grange halls were erect ed tho past yenr In that state, cost ing on uu average $3,700, the most expensive one costing $14,tiO0. The subordinate grange Is the basic stone of our Order, nud without It we could not succeed, says State Mas ter Gaunt of New Jersey. It is tho strong link in the chain that binds this great fanners' organization together from ocean to oeeau. The Intlueneo and usefulness of the Pomona state and national granges depend upon good work done by our subordinates. Wesaweskeag grange, up In Maine, is noted for something besides Its name. This grange, we learn from the Maine Farmer, Is to acquire title to a small fnrni property nt South Thomas ton, whereon It will erect or remodel one of the present buildings Into a com modious grange hall. The hall will be on the second floor, with banquet hall, kitchen, pantry and other facilities on the first floor. This will Involve an expense of about $300, and the money for the entire deal is In sight. The property cost $1,300. The Grange In IUInola. We have added eight granges to our rolls during the yenr and Increased our membership about 20 per cent. The profits to the membership, so far as reported for the three quarters past, by co-operation In buying supplies and disposing of products, were about 14 per cent us compared with the local prices.
