"In many cases the unal foreign out

lined their efforts to supplying insist

foreign production was called upon to
re-enforce domestic output, with the
result that new cuitciih and channels
.wore created In our foreign trade.. Our
export trade, therefore, shrunk, whilo
our Imports expanded to unprecedented

'The railroads of the country In their

a time. In many cases, however, resort
to extremes was it voided or rendered
unnecessary by liberal recognition by
employers of changes in tin; standard

CHICAGO, Dec. '".).-A special to the
Kecord-IIerald from New Orleans says
that the Standard Oil company has at
last secured control of the lleaumont
olltk'ld in Texas and tlio Jennings oil
region In Louisiana. There are only a
few small companies remaining out
side, and they cut very little figure in
the marketing of fuel oil. The price
fuel oil bus been advanced to $1 a
barrel, and the indications are that the
quotations will go still higher.
