What the Milton Record says of its
own town is applicable to many other
places : "Every town and community
has its leeches who suck the substance
out of everything they are connected
with, and who are a menace to the
growth and development of the place,
but this town of Milton seems to be
cursed with more than her fair pro
portion. A man s judgment miy
sometimes lead him to err. A good
citizen sometimes opposes a measure
that will promote the public good and
aid in developing a town, and be ac
tuated by honorable and conscientious
motives. But there are people in this
community whose souls are never
moved by an impulse higher than
their own personal gain or the gratifi
cation of their vindictive spirit. There
are men in this community who have
for fifteen years and for forty for
aught we know opposed every ad
vance step. If they could control
things we would still have our town
lighted with tallow candles and not
very many candles, cither. They
possess just enough influence to re
tard progress and are effective town
How to Remove StaiDS.
They Should Always be Taken Out Before
the Articles are Washed.
All stains should be removed before
the articles are put in the washtub.
The sooner a stain is treated the more
readily it will yield to the treatment.
Pour boiling water through fruit stains;
when obstinate soak in a solution of
oxalic acid. Wash vaseline stains in
alcohol; paint, in turpentine or alcohol;
varnish, in alcohol; grass or other green
vegetable stains, in alcohol, kerosene
or molasses; for stains from blood,
meat juice, use white of egg in cold
water. In the case of milk, cream,
sugar or syrup stains soak in cold
water and wash with soap and cold
water. Tar, whee' grease or machine
oil stains should be rubbed with lard
and allowed to stand a few minutes,
then they should be washed with soap
and cold water. Tea, coffee or cocoa
stains should be removed with boiling
water; if obstinate, with a weak solu
tion of oxalic acid. Maria Parloa, in

How To
Gain Flesh
Persons have been known to
gain a pound a day by taking
an ounce of SCOTT'S EMUL
SION. It is strange, but it often
happens.
Somehow the ounce produces
the pound 1 it seems to start the
digestive machinery going prop
eriy, so that the patient is able
to digest and absorb his ordinary
food, which he could not do be
fore, and that is the way the gain
is made.
A certain amount of flesh is
necessary for health j if you have
not got it you can get it by
taking
peon's piaislon
You will find it fust as useful in summer
as in winter, and if you are thriving upon
it don't stop because the weather is warm.
