The Keystone commission to the
Pan-American exposition at Buffalo
has selected Philip II. Johnson, of
Philadelphia, consulting engineer of
the late Allen B. Rorke, to draw
plans for the Pennsylvania building,
which will be erected on the exposi
tion grounds facing a lagoon near
the federal government, which is
the site selected by the commission.
Superintendent of public buildings
and grounds Eyre, Speaker Marsh
all, Senator Hardenberg and State
Treasurer Bamett will supervise the
plans and the erection of the build
ing. You'll never see beef as low
again as it was, says an exchange.
They can't afford again to raise it
so low out west. The cattle ranges
are more restricted, and it costs
more to raise beef out there than it
did. The things for the farmers
about here to do is to clear up their
old pastures that have gone to
brush and go to fattening cattle. It
will take a few years to get the best
results, because the old pastures
have run out. The higher pricetjf
hides helps the fanners, too. Now
they get eight cents a pound instead
of three and a half cents a few
years ago.
Many villages are of sufficient
size to support a brass band. Young
men cannot give themselves more
pleasure or better entertainment to
their friends about them than by
organizing a band. 110ms are
cheap and good music is almost
given away. In every hamlet tnere
is some one who, with the assist
ance of the elementary works pub
lished for every instrument, can act
for some time at least as teacher at
but little expense. A dozen boys,
more or less, who are likely to re
main at home, and who are willing
to practice, will do the trick. Start
your bands. Honesdale Herald.
