Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rodgers,of Muncy,
were entertained over Sunday by Mr. and

Mac. Reber came home from State Col
lege to attend the funeral of his friend and
classmate, Joshua Allen.
J. S. Woods returned home Friday from a
tnsiness trip, including Lewislmrg, Milton,
Vatsontown, and Mt. Carmel.
Miss Mary Wright and Miss Lou Murray,
two estimable young ladies of Wilkes-ISarre
were the guests of Mrs. Wilbur Kling, over

Patrick Reilly spent Sunday at Shamokin.
While there he had the offer of a position at
Lebanon. He has not decided whether to
accept or not.
Orvil O'Brien spent Sunday at his home
in Kenton. He stopped in town a few hours
Monday, while on his way back to Hazlcton,

Otto Kemper went to Waterbury, Con
necticut, on Monday, to ascertain the cost of
the manufacture of his newly invented sus

has received a lot of new and beauti
ful films, including the well known
fairy tale, "Cinderella." This is
the longest moving picture him
ever made.
William II. Coffman's reputation
as a ball player has attracted the
attention of some of the League
managers and he has revived some
tempting propositions from Alleu
town and other cities.
The Bloomsburg Council Royal
Arcanum will have an open
meeting tomorrow evening at eight
o'clock. A short but good pro
gram, refreshments and
social time is promised.

Hicks says the greatest storm per
iod of the month will be from the

ing to his prediction, we are to have
snow, sleet and a general blizzard.
The Normal School is expected
to have a strong base ball club this
cominc season. The nucleus of the
team has been selected and there is
an abundance of material from which
to round out a first-class aggrega
tion.
Upwards of one hundred members

Noah Brandt, a brother of Rev.
C. II. Brandt, a former pastor of
Trinity Reformed church, is visit
ing friends in town.

Bishop Talbot administered the
rite of confirmation to a class of
nineteen in St. Paul's Episcopal
church last night, and delivered an
excellent sermon. The vested choir
was present, and the church was
well filled with people.
The Tatnaqua Register tells a
story of a christian preacher in
Rush township, 50 years ago,
named Wells, who baptized his
father and mother, married his
father to his second wife, and
preached the funerals of his father,
mother and step mother

Jersey Shore is now in total dark
ness. The cause for this condition
of affairs is said to be the inade
quacy of the returns to meet the
cost of production. The plant has
been conducted by the borough for
some time past, but the officials pre
ferred darkness to debt, and so de
cided to close down the plant.
Farmers in some of the adjacent
counties are up against a new
bunco game. They sign what they
believe to be an order for a gold
watch, which they are to receive,
free, or at a nominal price, and the
signature turns up at the bottom of
a promisory note, it is me 01a ana
oft told story. The man who ex
pects to get something for nothing
is likely to get swindled.
There have been no new develop
ments in the McHenry murder case,
and a solution of the mystery is as
far off apparently as on the day of
the crime. It is authoritatively
stated, however, that a thorough
investigation of the premises will
soon be made in the hope of finding
the weapon with which the shoot
ing was done, or some other evi
dence suffie'ent to establish a clue.
The ladies of the G. A. R. will
give a constelation party in the G.
A. R. Hall on Friday evening,
March 15, at eight o'clock. An
admission of 10 cents will be
charged at the door, which includes
refreshments. Ice cream and cake
extra. The proceeds will go to
ward the furnishing of a room in
the new Hawkins Home for infirm
soldiers or their wives, located at
Hawkins' Station, Pa.

held daily in St. Paul's Episcopal
church are very interesting and the
attendance and interest manifested
is most gratifying.

No one wanted the postmaster
ship at Wilsons, Lycoming County.
In fact the department made efforts
to secure a suitable person, but they
were futile and the office was aban

the machinery necessary for
the operation of the new industry,
the Henry W. Gibbons Company,
arrived last week. The company
has a sufficient number of orders
already on hand to keep the plant
running for sonic time.
Harry P. Snivcly, a colored
porter at Kessler's Hotel, Northum
berland, was stabbed in the abdomen
by a st ranger at the I). L. & W.
depot in that town yesterday. The
victim is in a precarious condition.
The unknown would-bc murderer
made his escape.
The hum and noise of the rapidly
revolving machinery in the Carpet
Mill, after the usual qui.ting time
Tuesdav attracted the scribe's
attention as he was passing by.
An inquiry revealed the fact that
some large orders have been received
and that extra worit is necessary
An excellent likeness of our
townsman E. S. Fornwald, appeal
ed in Sunday's issue of the Philadel
phia Inquirer. He is receiving con
eratulations on his election to the
office of Grand Commander of the
Knights of Malta. The election
took place the latter part of Febru
ary and his term will commence in
May next. This station is the high
est of the order in the state, and
Mr. Fornwald is worthy of it in
every sense.
B. I Sharpless, the newly-elect
ed Coroner of Columbia county, has
appointed W. J. Gerrity, the popu
lar voune Tustice of the peace, of
Centralia, a deputy coroner of that
district. Mr. Gerrity's term as
depury coroner has just expired,
and the fact of his retension in of
fice, by Coroner Sharpless, is an in
dication of his ability and fitness
for the place. 'Squire Gerrity has,
by his genial disposition and many
acts of kindness, made a host of
friends in and about Centralia, where
he has been a recognized factcr in
politics for the past ten years. His-
appointment is a popular and de
serving one, as is evident by the
congratulations beinfr showered
