Warner Lyons, a young man aged about twenty-one years, died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Lyons, at Sereno, Sunday night. E. D. Hagenbuch, Republican Jury Commissioner, was sworn for the faithful performance of his of ficial duties, by Register and Re corder J. C. Rutter, Jr., Monday. Again we are informed that the facilities for cashing postal money orders are to be improved. The present system, in our opinion, is quite satisfactory. What bothers us the most is getting the orders to cash. William Senior was injured in the Mocanaqua Mines at Shick shinny yesterday afternoon. Mrs! II. F. Deitterick, of this town, a sister-in-law, was apprised of the misfortune about six o'clock, and she went up 011 the evening train. Mr. Senior had only been working in the mines a short time. A pleasant party occupied the Schuyler house, on Market street, last Monday evening. About thirty couples were present. The ladies furnished the refreshments and the gentlemen cashed up for the music. It was an iniornial affair and probably all the more enjoyable for that reason.. . Don't be afraid to tell the editor of your local paper who is visiting you, or when you are leaving town tor a visit. Items of this sort help to make the local page interesting to all. Persons often complain that the paper shows partiality, but try and see if it does not treat you right if you give it a chance. A preacher in Berwick, says the Hazleton Sentinel, went to a ball recently to get the names of the members of his church who attend ed dances. The young men were angered by his presence, to such an extent that he was picked up and thrown out bodily. The Sentinel adds that tile Divine, per haps, torgot to purchase a ticket. The New York World found a ready sale in town on Sunday. Its illustrations and article in connec tion with the pardon of Mrs. Annie Walden created a demand for it, which was much greater than the supply. The newsdealer had sent in an extra order, but for some rea son it failed to receive attention. Consequently many were disap pointed. The Centralia Borough Council at its last meeting decided to offer a reward of $500 for the arrest of the persons who d2stroyed the lamps and committed other acts ot vandal ism in that town Christmas night. In order to stimulate the hunt that is now being made for the offenders, Harry Michaell, Dr. Gwinner, Albert Lenahan, and Goldsworthy Brothers are each ottering a reward of ten dollars. Daniel C. Cromley, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Cromley. died after a short illness of three weeks with typhoid fever at his home 011 Third Street, Thursday morning last. His case was such, from the very beginning, as to admit of no hope of recovery. A wife survives. The funeral took place Saturday, Rev. M. E. Mc Linn conducting the services. Genssler, of Selinsgrove, declared that dealers who sell liquor to boys are worse than the Cudahy Kidnappers. For a ransom ot ten cents they are sold intoxi cants, and are returned to their parents with their eyes, their health and their morals burnt out. Isaiah Hagenbuch was summoned to Hamburg Tuesday morning by the serious illness of his wife. She had been visiting relatives in Phil adelphia, having stopped off while on the way home from Washington. Sickness of a critical nature mani fested itself and she was removed to the home of her brother at Ham burg. . As Mr. Philip Granam is pub lished in various papers, of Blooms burg and Philadelphia, as a min ister of the Evangelical Church, we, the undersigned, would say that Mr. Philip Graham never was a minister of the U. Evangelical Church, and of late, even not a member. S. S. Mumy, J. W. Brntz. Thos. Hickey's horse ran away on Monday. Ine animal was standing untied at the rear of the P. &. K. Depot and took fright at locomotive whistle. The wagon contained a lot of sugar which had been loaded on a few minutes be fore. One of the barrels was broken by the fall from the wagon, and a considerable quantity of the sugar spilled. The horse was finally caught. The Bloomsburg Basket Ball players gave an incorrect report of the game at Danville last week. They said that they had won the game by the score of 17 to 16. The Danville News styles our boys story of the game as a "dream" and adds that the correct result was 17 to 15 in favor of Danville. Why the locals should thus mis construe, when they knew that the truth would finally 'come, we are unable to conceive. No business place, no matter how pleasing its environments nor how gaudy its decorations, can survive without patronage. There can be no supporting income where there are tew sales, and tnere can be little selling where advertisement is not invoked to bring custom. By advertising liberally the shrewd merchant secures patronage, sells freely, and not only maintains his business, but is enabled to enlarge it. There is sadness in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Alexander, on West Street, caused by the death of their seven year old daughter. Flora. She had been sick only a short time. Her illness commenced with a heavy cold; this developed into croup, which refused to yield to the physician's treatment, and on Monday she passed away. When he hired the animal he said it was to take a pleasure ride out in the country. He had been employed as porter at the Commercial Hotel in that town. He was known by the name of Edward McGay. Kirkby.of St. Paul's Episcopal church, was yesterday morning intormed by telegram ot the death of his brother William R. Kirkby, which occurred at his home in Kacine, Wisconsin. He had only been ill since Christmas, or thereabouts, and while Mr. Kirkby had knowledge of the sickness, he little thought that it was so serious. The deceased, together with his family, visited here several years ago, and formed the acquaintance of many who will be pained to hear the sad news of his death. The distance will prevent Rev.
