Forest Fires Increase.
ALBANY, Sept. 20. The protracted
dry weather spell has caused the forest
tires In thn Adirondack, whlrli had
been smoldering, to start up afresh,

the northern part of the woods. Con

trol by a cordon of men under the super
vision of the state tire wardens. A

chain of lakes. In the southern portions

ure somewhat beyond the control of those

terday destroyed an entire block In the
business portion of the town, doing dam
age that will amount to over 200,000.
One man was fatally injured. The tire
started in the varnish room of a carriage
factory and spread rapidly, destroying
the plants of the Farming and Milling
company, the l'erry Lumber company
and a number of small stores and lodg
ing houses.

TAHIS, Sept. 10. The senate met ns
high court of justice yesterday for the
purpose of trying 22 politicians, including
MM. de Monicourt, lierouledu, Marcel
Hubert, Thicbnuil, Karon de Yaux and
Jules (iuerin, on the charge of conspiring
against the government. The procurator
general, M. Bernard, read the long in
dictment, which lasted from 2:25 till 3 '40
o. in., when the senate entered into the
preliminary inquiry which Is to be order
ed.
