Begins His Long Sentence- Dr. Johnston Taken. From New Bloomfiold to the Eastern Penitentiary. Thomas L. Johnston, of Duncan- non, who was sentenced to twenty years' solitary confinement in the Eastern penitentiary by Judge Lyons at New Bloomheld, after being con victed of murder in the second degree for the killing of Druggist George S, Henry at Duncannon last September, was on Friday taken to the penitenti ary by the sheriff and two deputy sheriffs of Perry county. We understand petitions to court will soon be made out, having the signatures of the citizens, living on the north and west side of the dilapi dated suspension bridge, urging the court to recognize the necessity of the reconstruction of the bridge and re cognizing this bridge as essential as any bridge in the township or any highway. Where the depot and post- office are located this bridge must be repaired on a sound basis, and the sooner the better. We can't afford o go around Cape Horn to reach the depot and postoffice that is by the onestown bridge near the school- house. It would cost but a small amount of money to repair the bridge, and our popular postmaster John Harrison, offers to render material help in the matter. The bridge must be repaired as a matter of public ne cessity. Miss Grace Amerman, one of our popular young ladies, has been doing some fine visiting up the river and also in Greenwood recently. His latest wonder, the Proiectoscope, will be on exhibition at the Grand Opera House three nights commencing February. 25th. This famaus machine puts life into pictures. It produces scenes from all parts of the world in a most realistic manner and it is very difficult for the audience to realize that they are only looking at a picture on a screen. There are numerous views including a company of National Guard Soldiers at Drill ; a Christmas run by the Harrisburg fire depart ment ; a farmer s troubles taken on Front Street, Harrisburg j The Em pire State Express on the New York Central Railroad 1 a morning bath in which is seen a young colored mother washing her little pickaninny 1 the lone fisherman giving an idea what may happen any angler; scenes in New York and on the ocean t the bucking broncho ; Passaic Falls New Jersey ; four of the greatest fire scenes ever presented, in which fire men are seen at work and rescuing people from burning buildings 1 down on the tarm feeding the doves ; and many others. This entertainment is one that draws the most fashionable audiences wherever the Proiectoscope has been exhibited and the people of this place should attend at least one of these exhibitions.
