The contract for the new church was awarded by the building commit tee last Thursday evening to B. W. Jury of this place for $39,850. There were five other bidders, but they ivere all higher than Mr. Jury excepting one, who estimated on Hummelstown stone, and as the building committee had decided to use the Yorks stone his bid was not taken into considera tion. The bid of Mr. Jury does not include windows, seats, pulpits, light or heating fixtures, but simply the walls, frames, roof, floors &c. The work will be commenced at once and is to be completed by the first of November 1896, As stated above the edifice will be bnilt of what is known as the Yorks stone, with Ohio limestone trimmings. It is expected that when completed the church will cost $50,000. Messrs George S. Robbins and C. C. Peacock have been telling some of their friends about the wild turkeys which roam at will through this county, and in order to substantiate their stories, they sent a large one to one of the gentlemen last week. It weighed twenty five pounds, was of the bronze variety, red legs, &c, and after it had been dressed would pass a wild one but it Collecting Old Ellis. In the spring of 1895, Dr. E. Grew- er, who represented himse'f as a noted cpecialist, opened an olf.ee in this city. He hailed from Scranton and only re mained here about two ronths, but during that time he incurred bills ag gregating several hundred dollars, which are still unpaid, leeterday Dr, trrewer s former patients in this vici nity were astonished when a stranger, representing himself as John L. Hoff man, a Scranton attorney, arrived here with $14,000 worth of judgment notes on which he demanded immediate payment. Mast ot these notes tanged in amounts from $70 to $90 oach, but some of them ran as high as -200 or $ioc. The signatures appear to be genuine, but the alleged makers of them are unanimous in declaring that they were not in their right senses if they signed them. Some further as t:rt that they were not even treated by Dr. Grewer. They are rapidly combining issues and have already en gaged counsel to resist payment. When it became known that Dr, Grewet's attorney was in town, credi tors began pouring in on him with bills for advertising, board claims and other accounts that had not been paid. Mr. Iiofimn assured them, however, that he was only authorized to make collections. One local attorney says that he holSs hills against the special ist for $400. l lie victims ot the physician are numerous and embrace a number of well known citizens, many of whom maintain that they never signed any notes to their knowledge. Attorney Hoffman declares that he intends to enter up all notes that are not paid at once. The above article appeared in the I'ublic J'ress of Northumberland last week. We also have reason to remem ber Dr. Grewer. He is indebted to this office for advertising which he has failed to pa v. How would it do for his creditors to pool their issues and attach some of this money he alleges is due him r A BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY. The boroKch of Berwick has solv ed the tramp question. The Town Council passed an ordinance forbid ding begging from door to door, Several tramps were arretted for vio la ting the ordinance and they will spend some time improving the roads m that borough, which they have been using heretofore gratis. If that law can be enforced in Berwick, why can t it be enforced in Bloomsburg ? TIM THE TINKER- John E. Brennan, the Irish Come dian, has been the recipient of much attention from the Irish national soci eties around the country. 111s ap pearance at the Opera House on next nday evening will be of interest to the Celtic portion of our citizens, who are fond of a good Irish drama. The play in which he appears is "Tim the Tinker." The author has departed somewhat from the time-worn method usually emploved in constructing a drama, and in "Tim the Tinker" there are no land sharks, no process serving menial, no collusion of the simple Irish lad and the too confiding Eng lish soldiery. The story of the play is strong in its simplicity. During the performance Mr. Bren nan will sing the following songs: Who'll Buy My Tins, Mamie Carey, Fairies Looking-Glass, Making Tin Cups, Mollie Me Darling, I see You, True Irish Gent, (lullaby) Don't You Cry Baby, and List to the Thrush, also his famous Jig and Reel dancing. This was a rule to show Cause by ItiS executors of said Hinter leiter should not pay to William Smith the sum of $345. 66, and why the con firmation absolute of the final account of said executors should not be strick en off and the same be reviewed. It was alleged in the petition that the executors had failed to account for certain notes held by them as executors against themselves as debtors of the estate, and that they had neglected and refused to pay the petitioner his share of said estate arising from the said notes. The executors answered saying that they had filed their final account, in which they had accounted for said notes. That owing to debts there was not sufficient funds to pay the full amount of his share of the said notes. And now December 21st 1895 the rule requiring the executors to make payment of$4.6 is dis charged, and th demurrer to the rule to show cause why the confirmation of the final account of said executors should not be stricken off and said account reviewed, is over-ruled, and the executors of the said Jacob Hinter leiter, deceased, are required to file their answer within thirty days from this date. Bloomsburg Banking Company, vs. I. W. Willits. This was a case stated in whih the Court was requested to determine whether the title to certain stock of the Bloomsburg Carpet Works was in I. W. Willits, and therefore subject to the levy of the plaintiff or in L. E. Waller and the Bloomsburg Artificial Ice Company claimants. The Court said that that question could not be decided as the matter now stood, and suggested that a case across the river.
